start menu programs chevron

my start menu/programs shows a chevron that i have to click in order to reveal other items in the start menu, this is rathre annoying. how do i get rid of it so that it will just show me all teh menus?
 
I think I know what you are getting at.

Assuming you have XP, try this:

- right click Start button
- select Properties
- select Start Menu
- select Customize
- in the Advanced Start menu options uncheck Use Personalized Menus
