Lemme see if I can explain this...

Some shortcut files are stuck in my start menu, they are shortcuts to some old ISO file I don't even remember and I have no idea why they are there. When I try to delete these items off my start menu, I get:

This is no longer located in C:/Users/Sys/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/windows/Recent - Verify the item's location and try again

But there is no item location, there's nothing in that folder. The only place these items show up is on the start menu itself and it won't let me delete them because they don't exist...I guess that's how it is. I've tried using programs that delete shortcuts to non-existent files but it didn't solve the problem. Also did a registry clean, and I can't get those dumb things to go away.

edit: I found the shortcuts are located C:\Users\sys\Searches\Everywhere - but still am unable to delete them because of that error message above. Maybe I'll have to try a force deleting program. I can't even copy and paste em though.

You can try the free version of Malwarebytes. There is a tool in there called file assassin. This will delete any file included those reported locked. I use this all the time and it never let me down. Just select the file you want to delete and hit del.

Alrighty, will give it a shot ty.

I'd like to just delete all the stuff in C:\Users\sys\Searches\Everywhere - It's like my computer is keeping tabs on me :p - There's a whole bunch of shit in that folder which I have no idea why it's there. But I think deleting stuff in that folder would delete the actual files. Plus since most of the files listed there arent even on my HD anymore it would just give me that error message above 1000 times. I would like to just disable the search. Crap cleaner didn't get rid of any of that stuff.

Even malwarebytes says the files aren't found when I try to delete them :( Fuck.

Guess I could just disable search files on the start menu options but all those old ass shortcuts are still there and it pisses me off that I can't delete them.

Take note that file assassin can delete one object at a time whether this is a file or a directory. When selecting your target there is no delete option. All you got to do is mark your target with the mouse and hit del (do not click on open). Since you can delete only one object each time it may take quite some time if you need to delete many files but not the entire directory. All deleted files end up in the recycle bin so if you delete something by mistake you can get it back.

everything in this folder : C:\Users\sys\Searches\Everywhere is still undeleteable, unmoveable, and unrenameable :p

I don't know why or how to get rid of them. Maybe safe mode will do the trick.

Safe mode is always a good strategy. You can also try unlocker. Unlocker is freeware and is capable of deleting some files that even file assassin can't.
