Is it satire?

Basically, is all the sh!!tty action, the lame sequences, the MASSIVO amounts of gore on purpose?

Thanks

P.S.....I'll admit I've watched it a few times for the braijn sucking, the explosions and because there was nothing bettter to watch and such:eek:

The work on which it was based (Robert Heinlein's novel) did indeed entertain notions of satire.

Yes, it was a satire of war propaganda films and the glorification of facism. (That's why Verhoeven put Doogie Howser in a SS uniform.) I don't know whether he admitted it, but many people believe the casting of the terrible wooden actors also was intentional.

I don't know man, in a sense I liked it cuz it was sooo horrible.

I didn't really get the satire part though.

Yes, a satire all the way.

Anyone who's got any doubts should listen to Verhoeven's commentary on the DVD...

That makes sense. Now if it HADN't been satire or something of the sort, then it would have been a VERY bad movie indeed.

Otherwise, its definitely watchable.

It has Denise Richards...

Twenty bucks says she didn't know it was a satire.
:D nor Casper Van Ghost (Rico the chowderhead) :D

Startship Troopers 2 was a low-budget ripoff of The Thing, with none of the dark humor and goofy fun of the original ST (or of The Thing for that matter).

The Roughnecks - Starship Troopers Chronicles DVD I rented from Netflix was pretty good (#1 is "Pluto"). It's CGI, a little like the Final Fantasy movie though cruder. Much better writing and more interesting battles than in the second live action movie.

The movie has tons of satire in it - especially about the actions of governments.

The 2nd one is really bad. As far as I can tell, the only connection to the book is the name "mobile infantry."

They tried to make the 2nd one a horror movie instead of some sort of a book adaptation.

If you have an HD setup, the Superbit version of Starship Troopers has reference quality video. It looks amazing. Even the non-superbit version is damn good.
