StarGate Worlds

How many guys will be running around in Samantha Carter guise?

"upcoming, highly anticipated Stargate Worlds" -- That's almost fraudulent, given that almost nobody's heard of it. Gamespot's only got a couple of press releases from January and March. And "upcoming" generally tends to be used to mean "sometime soon", not "we just now got the license for the game engine when we've been planning this game for 9 months or more".

Yeah, but tv shows based on movies are suppossed to suck too.

Haha, scheduled for launch in late 2007? I'm sure that's a typo and they actually meant late 2009.

err... what movie was Kotor based on?

LOL. X-wing didn't suck either though, nor jedi knight. There have also been reasonable Star Trek games.

Indeed. I just think it's funny to say that EVERY Star Wars or Star Trek or etc. game is "based" on a movie. Hell, for that matter, Space Quest was "based" on a movie if we're going to stretch the Star Wars movie universe that far.

I'd argue that Space Quest was based on a genre, that (at the time) was defined by a handful of movies/TV shows. Kotor, Dark Forces, Tie/X-wing, are all based on the Star Wars universe, some closer to the movie(s) than others.

This one is still in the early stages and they've only shown concept art so far. They've really talked up having episodic tie-ins with the shows, but now that SG-1 is cancelled, it seems like they'll have to do a major overhaul on their plans. Everything they've mentioned (classes, storyline) have been based on the SG-1 universe, rather than Atlantis.

I'm glad to see another scifi MMO in the works. It's good to see alternatives to the typical fantasy games. I don't know how Stargate Worlds will turn out, but hopefully along with Star Trek Online it will open the market to more scifi MMOs. I also have a sneaking suspicion that Blizzard may really be working on the rumored Starcraft MMO.

I have links to a lot of the recent coverage here: Stargate Worlds MMOz.
