From the looks of the previews, they've finally found a way to kill the franchise.

In other news, SyFy was a stupid name change.

They figure they can make more money reinventing the series.

I'm not sure if it will be absolute crap, but it's going to be different with the "new generation" approach. They'll definitely keep some of the same style to character types and situations, so it won't be entirely different, but still have to see if it will be good.

First off let me ask SighFy how they can expect us to get involved in a new Stargate when they left their loyal viewers hanging by not finishing Atlantis?
I am NOT tivo'ing Universe. I will not watch it live on my home television.
I will watch it at a friends, but I feel some kind of consumer response is necessary.

That said, I can understand the need to re-boot the series. Humans had become far too powerful, with a fleet of the most powerful warships in our galaxy. The idea of it being hidden from the public also became pretty unbelievable.

Placing Universe in an unknown galaxy, presumably without contact with Earth on a Ancient warship that is falling apart (from the trailers) puts humans back nearer to where we are technologically. According to the producers there are no other humans in the new galaxy and any aliens encountered will be "very" alien. So the show is presumably more personality driven drama than the other Stargates.

It's almost like they saw the critical success of BSG and are duplicating it. Both series are essentially about finding their way to Earth.

It sounds like it could be Star Trek Enterprise on the epi's they encounter non humanoid life, but I doubt it. It's gonna be about the worst and best of human nature in a difficult situation.
In other words a space drama.

I have feeling it will be far less comedic based on the actors. I like Stargates humour and will miss it.

If Universe is not a good show, then SighFy will be left with Sanctuary, Warehouse 13 and Eureka. The only one of the three that is a not miss for me is Eureka. Which has aired very few epi's.

It truly has become Sigh Friday.

Of course, Universe may turn out to be very good. But then we will be faced with the question of will they just end the series without, well, an end?

btw FYI Zoe from Eureka (Jordan Hinson) who was last seen going away to college has a regular role on the new Kelsey Grammar network show "Hank". So you have to wonder if we will even see her at all anymore on Eureka.

OK, I think maybe they've killed it for me....maybe their new viewership will like it. Perhaps the ads have some poorly-chosen scenes, but what I see is overacted, over-the-top, and a far cry from the original series' sometimes campy, sometimes self-deprecating humor.

But I stand firm on my assessment of the channel's name change :p

From what i've read, the next Movie, Stargate: Extinction , will finish the Atlantis storyline.

Sounds identical to Atlantis in the early first season..

Personally.. i'm looking forward to Universe...

it cant be as bad as Stargate:Infinity ... and even that was barely watchabale.

Nah. At this point it's looking like they aren't going to make Extinction.

I'll believe that when I see it. My guess: People with prosthetic foreheads who speak English.

I didn't watch the last 2 eureka episodes till a week after the series ended for the season, so at the time I thought it odd, but I got a survey from nbc on eureka that was heavy into questions about which char did you like/dislike and which char pairs do you want to see more of. With so many presumably off the show now, seems they are trying to figure how to handle things for the next (and I'm think near the final) season.

You mean the same way that The Ark of Truth "finished" SG1? By condensing down what was supposed to be an entire season or two of script into a 2 hour "episode"?

:( Boo. Stargate deserves better. Wormhole Extreme would even deserve better.

I want more stargate, I miss stargate, but this looks crappy enough that I'm not going to bother with it unless there is a lot of buzz around here that it is fantastic.

One of the scariest things about Universe I have read is the producers and creators have pre-emptively ripped into Stargate fans saying they "owed" it to Stargate to watch the new show.
That has some Stargate fans up in arms. They feel they are being scorned because SighFy claims they had to re-work Stargate to appeal to a younger audience and yet the "old" audience is being told they would be "disloyal" if they don't watch it.

It's very strange to read what the producers are saying about the Stargate fans.

It sounds like a clusterf*ck already.

I thought about it too but only to the extent of the basic premise of being trapped far from home and trying to find their way back. As far as the individual episodes go, I don't imagine they'll be anything alike. The SG universe doesn't have a lot of unique alien encounters and they've already branched into multiple galaxies, it would be odd all of a sudden for them to follow the Voyager premise and you see new species and unique encounters every episode. If anything it'll be like Voyager meets BSG.

Good news for Zoe fans of Eureka. Her new show sucks. It won't last long.
So she may be back.
