Stargate: The Movie and Stargate: SG-1 Question...

I saw the movie when it was in theatres, I don't think I have seen it since. I just started watching season one on DVD.

In the movie, right before the nuke went off in Ra's spaceship, I seem to recall his whole body starting to glow from within, and you could see what looked a bit like one of the "grey" aliens within him. My memory may be faulty on this subject.

In Stargate: SG-1, the "gods" are basically humans with an oversized Ceti Eel/Pupper Master/Bodysnatcher thing in them. Did these ever show up in the movie at all, or were they an invention for the show? I don't remember them, nor the aliens with the kangaroo pouches.

hmm.. good question. I dont know if they were shown directly in the movie, but I think it was implied that they were parasitic aliens, though its been a while since ive seen the movie.

Yeah it's been changed. The "alien" face you see right before the bomb goes off isn't the master alien race they fight now.

Ironically, those kind of big eye'd aliens do make appearances in the series but as a different race

The eel thingies never were a part of the movie, same with the pouch guys.
I think you disregard everything about the 'gods' in the movie except that they enslave people.

It is commonly considered that the RA of the original movie was a Goa'uld who had inhabited an Unas for an extremely long time before encountering Earth.

Whether the 'creature' which possessed the child who would become Ra's host was possessed by a Goa'uld larvae or the Unas itself is still under alot of debate... but Ra was considered the FIRST Goa'uld to possess a body... so he may have developed some other.. abilities.

The production values are higher than I expected, particularly in the early episodes. I thought the series was originally shown on network television. If so, I am guessing they edited out the nudity in the pilot episode?

Originally it was on Showtime, so the pilot had the nudity in it. It was the only episode though, and they just edited it out when they showed it on cable later.

Ah, ok. I have never had cable, but I saw bits and pieces of various episodes on network television when they were shown later. I figured I would start going through season one on DVD and see how I liked it. It's good so far. 🙂

The "puch guys" are the Jaffa and they are the guards in the movie that have the helmets that retract. At that time they didn't show that they had pouches because it wasn't established yet.

The series aired the first couple of seasons on Showtime.

Like I said...extra. 😛

I always liked the movie but never got into the series. But then again I jsut couldn't stop waiting for the main character to whip out some tin foil, a rubber band, and some chop sticks and make a death ray.

It was sad when he left 🙁. I could never watch without ol' Mc to make a wise crack or something. On that note, don't even get me started on Atlantis. The inclusion of Canadians was worse enough :Q!

I loved the comment from the female lead who's name I cannot yet remember when she talked about how they "MacGyvered the controls together" or whatever it was.

I used to feel that way about Atlantis. I started watching it from season one a couple of months ago and I have to say that the characters grow on you slowly, but they become likable given enough time. The Wraith are a compelling enemy if they can keep the bogey man stuff toned down and treat them with some intelligent plots.

Michael Shanks(Jackson) is a lucky SOB. Apparently he's the real-life Captain Kirk, as he's married a couple of sci-fi actresses(including Lexa Doig as of right now) and has boinked countless others.:Q I knew I should have majored in Egyptology instead!

Yeah, I almost completely forgot about that. It's been so long since I've seen the pilot.

He has made a few guest appearances since then and he has made several in season 10. He has said that he really missed the show and wanted to get back into it. Unfortunately SG-1 has been canceled but he'll definitely be in the SG-1 movies and I'm sure he'll be in several more Atlantis episodes. He has already been in a few. You should definitely give Atlantis a chance. It doesn't start to really pick up until season 2. Also Carter is going to be a regular next season and i'm sure cast members from SG-1 will make guest appearances in Atlantis from time to time.
