Stargate SG-1 really needed to end at Season 8

Seasons 9 and 10 did not need to happen. These two seasons completely ruined everything I loved about the show. Whenever I'm reminded of the show, I can't help but also remember how seasons 9 and 10 totally destoyed it. The Ori? What a load of garbage! No Richard Dean Anderson? Big hint to end at the end of Season 8. Lets not forget the defeat of the Goa'uld. One would think the end of the main antagonist in the series would signal the end of the it. Nope, not to the idiots at the Sci-Fi Channel. They would rather defecate on the legacy of the show with Seasons 9 and 10 rather than end it properly at the end of Season 8. It could of ended so well if part 2 of Moebius (last episode of season 8) was written with the knowledge of it being the final episode. So many other things could have been wrapped up. I would have nothing but fond memories of the show if it ended this way.

It was an actually good ending, aside from the fact that the last couple episodes were what was distilled out of what was intended to be an entire season.

I don't disagree about StarGate's ending. Though, along the way, I thought that they did a good job.

If I can stray from the topic a bit, what is on Sci-Fi that is a watchable as StarGate SG-1 was?

SG-1 ended about 40 seasons too soon. It needs to go the way of Doctor Who and be revived from time to time.

I miss science fiction TV shows. Last thing I'm going to do is complain about one that was better than average.

But I do agree that the last two seasons weren't really up to par with the rest of the series on quality. Do watch Atlantis though, good show. Universe is decent, maybe a bit too much angsty drama, and sadly it ends on a cliffhanger.

Sci-Fi has gone down the tubes..they just dont have any good shows anymore. And come on wrestling on friday night? I guess that falls into the Sci-Fi genre.

I loved the SG-1 series and SG-Atlantis could of been a little better but I did really like SG-U and that could of gone farther.

Another series that I really love is Battlestar Galactica. I was also getting into Caprica but if I remember right they moved Caprica and SG-U to tuesday night and put crappy fake "wrestling" on Friday night. Then cancelled the series half way through. Of course the show is going to take hit because of that.

It all started when they changed their name from Sci-Fi to syfy. Since that last show was cancelled "caprica" I have yet to see a good series/movie come out of that channel. I couldnt tell you the last time I even had the tv tuned to that channel.

I agree about the "SyFy" channel... There's no longer a point in watching it, as it now has about as much to do with science fiction as MTV has to do with music.

I loved every minute of that series.

Blazed through all 10 seasons (plus the "movies" that concluded it all) this past summer when I was in Georgia for some schooling.

I also really enjoyed SGU, though like many said, Season 2 was much better than 1 (and highly annoying that it ended so soon), but I still enjoyed 1 because it was the type of sci-fi I enjoy most (more character and behavior-centered than "ooo space! and aliens!").

Yeah - when they made the decision to go from Sci Fi channel to C movie producers

I still remember the SG-1 -> SG-A -> BSG Friday nights fondly. Those three shows on the same night? A once a week guarnateed nerdgasm (or multiples in the same night) Alas I knew it was too good to last and now those memories are all I have :\

I really think The Ori should have been the bad guys for Atlantis, and The vampires, er I mean Wraith, should have never been.

The Ori story arc was to forced. So they meet a bad guy 100x worse than the Goa'uld, but defeat them in 2 seasons+1 movie.
Stargate Universe should have never happened.

The last few seasons were not the best, but they were still very good.

Although SGU was rather disappointing, I was still sad to see it end so early. The franchise is second only to Star Trek, IMO.

I would agree with the OP. The last 2 seasons of SG-1 were a waste of time.

The problem is that Sci-Fi had a contract with Ben Browder for a show and they then signed him up for the last 2 seasons.

SG-U is actually enjoyable. When I first head they were taking the SG franchise into a battlestar galactica direction I thought that there was no way in hell it would end well, but it's honestly pretty good! It has an aura of adventure and exploration that is inherent in any good Sci-Fi

What happened to the cute little girl robot? Prequel to battlestar galactica? It just gets intersting and they canned it. SYFY channel sucks. Who wants to watch idiots walking around at night chasing a sound that doesnt exist? It is all trick photogrophy at its worst.

I think the problem was they weren't making enough money to justify the high budgets. They prefer to be a bottom feeder I guess.

Stargate SG-1 was the only reason we had Showtime at my house when I was growing up. It was one of the few shows that we all sat down to watch... even my dad who didn't really like much that was on TV!

EDIT:

He did used to watch the original Battlestar Galactica, so I guess it's not terribly surprising that he would get into another "Sci-Fi Epic" (I guess SG1 could be an epic?).

no it didn't!! HALLOWED ARE THE ORI

The Ori should have never existed. It was always about the Goa'uld. They whole point of the series was to defend Earth from them and to ultimately defeat them. The show needed to end with their defeat.

:awe:

They were okay. Not a big fan of Vala, overall far more inconsistent. Atlantis was okay, at the time I was happy when they got rid of Weirritating, but now I can watch the seasons she is in and I don't even notice her idiocy. It's just a nice mental block I have. Never saw universe, not too interested.

it probably would have been better if they did that arc as a new SG-1 series and let it play out longer. but I miss those show, back when scifi was a channel you could actually watch instead of the 24/7 paranormal & tween vampire shit that past across the schedule now.

I can appreciate the sentiment, but I think all the gateheads can agree that the
last half of season 6 and the first half of season 7 are the worst *cough*jonasquinn*cough*

SciFi Fridays used to be my favorite night of the week. Damn you, SciFi/NBC/Comcast/whoever is responsible for turning it into the steaming pile it currently is.

With that said, I do like a couple of their summer shows.
