Update 1/29/2010:
Stargate Resistance gets a release date. 2/10/2010.

Again folks, this is NOT the Stargate MMO. This is simply a stopgap "Shooter" game that CME is hoping (praying?) generates enough revenue to pay off some of their debts and continue working on the actual Stargate MMO, Stargate: Worlds.

*sigh*

Original Post:
Here you go folks, this is the supposed savior of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and the almost immortal, Duke Nukem Forever-esque Stargate Worlds MMO.

Please note, this game is not intended to be the replacement for Stargate World, but rather something intended to generate some revenue for CME/FireSky in order to pay the rather large bills that CME has racked up while "developing" Stargate Worlds. They're supposedly still working on SGW, but I'm guess a large part of it hinges on whether or not SGR actually generates any substantial income, which frankly I don't believe it will. (Think half-assed thrown together FPS game)

Brief synopsis: It's a FPS. It's NOT an MMO. Sounds akin to Battlefield 2 - persistent characters and progression.

Not so brief synopsis:

Stargate Resistance is a fast-paced and deadly 3rd person shooter for control of the entire galaxy!

The arrogant System Lords believe they are the true masters of the universe, and have begun a savage campaign to dominate and enslave the known worlds.

Stargate Command operatives are the first line of defense against this menace. Small teams of brave agents use the Stargate to travel about the galaxy and parry the thrust of these alien overlords.

Whichever side you choose, each battle will be one of wits, skill, and reflexes that can decide the fate of the entire galaxy!

  • Dominance: Battle for control of the galaxy as either the SGC or System Lords, wresting power away from your foes with each glorious victory!
  • Dial It Up: Spearhead the assault by charging through the Stargate into enemy territory--drawn straight from the amazing Stargate series!
  • Tactical Battle: Work with your teammates to defeat enemy players in a variety of multiplayer modes including Team Death Match, Capture the Tech, and of course, Domination!
  • Game Play Variety: Master all 6 classes and use their unique abilities to turn the tide of battle. Earn experience with each class to advance through the ranks.
  • True Stargate Weapons: Play with a vast array of weapons including the P90, Proximity Mines, Staff weapons, Sniper Rifle, .50 MG Turret and Anti-Cloak Sight, Ribbon Device and Ash'rak Death Knives!
  • Spectacular Visuals: Experience battlefields with jaw-dropping textures and lighting rendered by the Unreal 3 engine!
  • Expanding Universe: New content including maps, weapons, and classes enter the fray through future expansions.

Hrm. I hope this isn't going to be as much of a flop as the "beta test" for sgw. As bad as that was I don't see how a rushed out the door FPS is going to be able to generate any kind of reasonable revenue.

That said, if it is every actually released I might still give it a try depending on how much they ask.

I realize graphics aren't all that matter, but...

Man, those graphics look horrid for 2009. People in particular.

SGW will die a slow horrible death unfortunately. The MMO market was built for orcs, elves, and magical flying animals. :)

This game makes me sad.

The IP is great, so much could be done with it in the hands of a capable developer.

Hmm, that's a pretty quick turn around. Probably gonna have to leave this one out there till some sucker, er, courageous soul tries it first.

Reminds me vaguely of Ion Storm releasing dominion to pay for Daikatana. Certainly a bad precedent to follow.
