Sorry guys, I hate to drag this out into yet another Stargate World/Resistance / CME thread, but anyway...
The game that has held of for dear life even harder than Duke Nukem Forever seems to have almost run out of gas. Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has filed for bankruptcy on 2/12/2010. This comes on the heels of the modest release of Stargate: Resistance, an interim FPS title (in the vein of something like Battlefield 2, but smaller, and more Stargate-y) that was hopefully intended to generate revenue in order to resume work on the anticipated MMORPG "Stargate: Worlds".
Well, Stargate: Resistance numbers are unknown, but it's obvious from the bankruptcy filing that it hasn't generated the revenue needed to repay prior debts. In fact, speculation about Stargate: Resistance is that it was more of a demo that would be used to prove to potential investors that CME/FireSky is capable of releasing aquality product.
Bankruptcy, as we all know, does not necessarily mean the end of a company. However given that Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is about 2 years behind with development, let alone release of their flagship title, and the pile of debt they have from several years of mismanagement, it's very hard to believe that they will exist much longer, let alone have the resources to finish what was supposed to be a AAA-class title.
As it stands, Stargate: Resistance is the only current working and released title under CME's belt. It has been reviewed as simply lackluster. For the price point ($20), it could be far worse, but it no doubt hasn't generated enough sales to pull CME out of the millions of dollars in debt it has accumulated over the past several years.
I'll leave it at that.
