Ok, here's my situation. I have a legitimate copy of starcraft installed on my computer, my friend has the same legit copy installed and fully updated on their computer, we'd like to play together, but unfortunately, they didn't install the "Spawn" version, they installed the full version. Is there any way we can play online, not through battle net? I have the original CD, they do not.

Uninstall full version, install spawn.

Or he could pony up the five bucks for a legit CD.

Come join the fun on the ATOT BNet server. :D

yup, it's possible, just not through Battlenet-- do a direct connection (UDP i believe). Makes sure your friend has the SC CD ghosted on his hd so he can at least load the program.

Well, my friend could install a spawned version, if I didn't have the CD and wasn't a 30 min drive away and there wasn't a blizzard outside right now.

Can we do a direct connection through a broadband connection? I'm not seeing anywhere to put in an ip address or anything.

Could ISO up the CD, RAR it, and get it to him that way and have him reburn it and then install spawn.

Otherwise I don't know about the direct connect part. Never tried that.

Not at the same time though. think about it, why would blizzard let multiple users all log on with the same CD key? What would be the point of unique CD keys then?

No, you usually get a "this key is in use by (account name) at the moment" error message.

I played starcraft with my friends years ago on the same CD-Key, yes i'm an evil person I know.

Anyway like 3-4 of us all played, on bnet, at the same time.

Kind of ironic that a blizzard is thwarting both your RL and online options, huh?

You should be able to connect via UDP or IPX (I forget which one it uses). You'll have to install the protocol on both computers, since IIRC it's not on there with a default install of Windows.
