Ok, so I picked up a few games recently "see my thread on Dead Space" and I couldn't decide which game to start first.

Well, today in Gamestop I saw Starcraft Battle Chest for $5.00 "pretty sure they had wrong price on it...but I still got it for the $5.00.....So I grabbed it because of all the buzz about Wings Of Liberty so I put the others and Dead Space on hold for a bit.

Now, is this game anything like C@C Generals or anything like that ? Decided to start with the Battle Chest to get into before going with WOL. I guess to see what all the fuss is about.

Anyway, it was a great deal I think, so is there anything specific I should know about it before I start ? Any info/personal experiences from anyone here ?

I mean, if this game has been out since the late 90's...and people still play, then I guess Ill find out how really good it is "hopefully".

Its installed, so here goes....................

Moved from Video to PC Gaming

Its like CnC Generals in that you build bases near resources, harvest resources with workers, build buildings, build units, etc. Both games have you build large blobs, though IIRC Generals was more spammy. There was also not much micro-management in Generals.

I haven't played Generals in a while but all I really remember was spamming tanks.

Prepare for a very not user friendly experience.

SC2 is much better, IMO.

Yea, I don't plan on jumping in the the MP right yet anyway. And yes, 12 years late "mostly" because I have always thought it was MP only or something like a MMPORPG. But apparently its not. :)

So yea, late to the party, but still ....

Planning on the campaign only with this one. To get the "hang" of things.

Ok, so how do I change the resolution on this game ? It is installed...but I have wavy lines running horizontal on the left of the screen. Any clue what is causing this ?

You'll need a resolution expander or something. I think that's what it's called. Otherwise the resolution stays the same. I don't know about the wavy lines, though.

I am also running the latest NV drivers. Just updated.

However, the lines are still there. But there are what seems like colored blocks not showing up, And when I run the mouse cursor over the missing blocks, they show up.

Well, I got the resolution changed. Now I am wondering why I have horizontal lines going across the screen.

When I last played the Starcraft campaign, I did it in windowed mode and with pixels doubled. This launcher does both:

If some compatibility stuff you may need to set:
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/...-windows-7-or-vista-fix-color-display-issues/

making StarCraft one of the best selling computer games for PC, with three expansion packs available, namely, Insurrection, Retribution, StarCraft: Brood War.

Did I miss something?

Nah. There is only one official expansion and two "unofficial" expansions. The two unofficial expansions are not considered part of Starcraft canon. They are authorized by Blizzard but again, they're not considered part of the normal Starcraft universe.

Well, it seems if I run in windowed mode, the graphical glitch is gone. Although I do prefer full screen :)

The pixel-doubled, windowed mode is by far the best looking way as you avoid blurry scaling which is death to low-resolution graphics. It doesn't even harm the controls as you can lock the mouse inside the window.

Oh, I didn't even know that they existed... I thought the writer had dun goofed! A Google search turned them up and wow... pretty lame artwork on the one box. Reminds me of one of those 80s fantasy/adventure movies.
