Me and my son (7 years old) we're taken on just one computer opponent. I built bunkers and tanks and so did my son. The computer shows up at our base with tons of Zerg and manages to whoop our @$$. I was pissed! How in the flying hell does the computer collect enough resources to kick our @$$ with a overwhelming force in the same time that I have to build my force? I think it cheats. Any one have a strategy?

First off, yes, it does cheat. It knows where you start and all. Second, it is much easier for the computer to build and manage itself because it can do any number of tasks at once. Build units, coordinate others, etc. Where as the human can only do one thing at a time. Bascally to beat the comp, you just need to build enough where you can fend off the first attack, and then keep attacking it to keep it weak.

Any one have a strategy?

Concentrate all resources on building perimeter defense turrets in large quantities and build as many units as possible, don't leave the base (except for some scouting, maybe). No AI can win me when I follow this strategy.

In fact, it's very easy to win playing with an AI. When you play with a human opponent, he won't send just a couple of units to attack your base like the stupid AI does. He'd rather build like 30-40 tanks and when he comes your base is toast.

whereas you can only control one unit at a time, or command one group of units to do one thing at a time, the computer can do everything at once.

I concentrate on building troops to man the bunkers. My son is kind of far away (the other side of the house) I'm yelling like a freaking stuck pig for him to build more defenses but he?s young and he?s just learning the fine strategy of RTS. But it still pisses me off that the computer shows up with a force that is impossible for me to match in the same allocated time period.

Note:
I've played Starcraft for years solo but I'm just now trying to play it with muliplayer help and it's really starting to piss me off.

How many resource gatherers do you build...? You need to produce those rapidly as well. And I assume you're sending each resource gatherer to a different pile of crystal?

In multiplayer, the initial like 2 minutes makes a gigantic difference--you need to be using right build order, otherwise your production will be insufficient to withstand an attack. Look around online, some of these should be posted.

I don't usually count my gathering units but I would say I have about 12 mineral gathering units and 3 gas gathering units within about 2 minutes.

Yes, the AI does build efficiently.. but it is stupid.

I try to have about 50 supply worth of units harvesting resources, if the game lasts very long. Playing against the computer though, I build offensively and makes troops rather than fortifications.

it doesn't cheat, its just efficient. at my prime i could take down 7 cpus bymyself on bgh. borderline for a while but it gets easy once u get big guns out. they rush u like mad:p

be happy the computer isn't smart like a human. with human strats like bunking u in and using drops and sh*t + cpu efficiency everyone would die to a comp:p as it is, all it knows how to do is rush:p

btw u can record and playback replays now:p so if u really think its cheating, u can catch it.

Depot wall!

hehe

The Computer AI is fast but dumber than sh*t.

Build up a solid wall of Depots that he can't walk through.

Then when your marines are shooting his Zealots, they'll try to run to your marines to hit them. They won't attack the Depots. Since they can't by the depots they can't get to your marines, so they attack nothing.

They wander around aimlessly until they run out of HP.

Gotta learn how to build a tight Depot wall, but once you've got that you are set.

The Computer AI is really hard at first, but really easy later because it's so dumb.

Me and Jesse or Me and Jamie can easily win 2v6 computers. Never tried 1v7 myself, but I know folk that can do it.

You don't know how "fair" StarCraft's AI is until you've seen how the AI in Red Alert plays. :D

Anyway, I've noticed a trend in multiplayer StarCraft, when you and your buddies go up against multiple AIs they will tend to all hit one player at the same time. You need to coordinate with your buddies to survive this initial rush, and be prepared for an instant counter-attack right after the rush.

I am assuming you are playing Terran so use this strategy-

Make depot after 8 scvs. Make 3 barracks one after one and keep making scvs. Make one bunker. Mass produce marines and firebats. Get tanks and scan station. Then take everything and flatten the comp. Try playing the final level in starcraft brood war. That level is pure hell. The protoss in that level is sheer nightmare.

dont worry about gas till after youve fended off the first wave (you really only need it after youve built a factory - or once you start pumping out flamethrowers)

That's why you don't play under high difficulty on most games. Based on what I read here, it's very stupid though.

The only game I play under hardest setting is FIFA World Cup 2002. I stay very competitive with the computer (pretty much 50-50 chance that I'll win). It is not too easy but the computer doesn't get to do the impossible either.

but flame throwers aren't any good behind bunks really. u just need a bunch of tanks behind bunks/supplies. then build a ton of air:p

remember, 1.5 workers per mineral and u'll be fine:p
