I haven't bought any new retail PC games since Battlefield 2 when it came out (2005), which cost like $45. Everything since then has been through Steam sales, with prices of like $4.99 and lower. I just checked Best Buy, and now I see that SC2 costs $60? Am I the only one considering not purchasing it at this price?

Not to mention this is only one third of the full game, which means that if I want the full Starcraft 2 then it is going to cost $180...

We've been through this already. Welcome to a couple of months ago.

You're just not figuring this out? I thought they announced this last December or something, I still plan on getting it. If you can't afford $60 for recreation it's probably a good thing that you're not buying it because you need to be working more and playing video games less.

Next you'll bitch about it not having a LAN feature...

I think COD4 was $50 or $60 when it came out. It's not like there won't be a sale on it shortly after it's released.

It's blizzard, I would pay 100 for the game.

I did pay 100 for the collectors edition : p although I suspect it's the last CE I'm going to bother getting from Blizzard.

Edit: I highly encourage you to not buy it if you don't like it. Only way to fight greedy people is to make it not profitable for them.

I'm guessing the next two will be expansions at 40$s each. If they're 50 or 60, I'll probably be done with Blizzard games in general.

A. Don't buy it right away, wait for a deal

B. This isn't "1/3" of a game, it's "1/3" of a Trilogy. This first installment is a FULL stand alone game. You will get just as much gametime as any other PC game out there.

C. If it's too much, then borrow it from a friend.

It's a full game. Expansions come out later, just like always.

I paid $82 shipped/taxed for the collector's edition, keep an eye out for deals.

They will most likely be $60 because they are not expansions, but two complete sequels.

I agree though, if it were just an expansion and it cost $60, that'd be way too much.

This is only true if the part 2 and 3 are also stand-alone games. Even if they are, you'd either be disadvantaged in multiplayer or only be able to play with other people who only bought the exact same versios(s) as you.

In other words, it is "1/3" of the game, and it's going to cost $180 total.

Let's just be thankful Blizzard doesn't plan to buy any additional franchises and ruin them like EA is doing.

They won't be complete sequels. Even if they make them full installs (otherwise known as standalone expansions) they're just going to be a new set of missions + some new units, which since the beginning of video game history have been considered expansions.

all three will have the same multiplayer. essentially you're paying $60 for each single-player campaign.

since when do people buy starcraft for the single player? buy one game and be done with it.

WTF

also wtf, 180 bucks for a damn game, and you think thats reasonable??

🙄

the classic 'I dont play SP so who cares about it' argument, thats always a good one.

the fact that MP will be the same basically proves 2&3 are merely expansions. at likely full game price.

if EA or activision did this there would be so much bitching, but some of you love blizzard SO MUCH you turn a blind eye, almost as sad as the pro-real ID'ers

Doom 2, Sierra games, SCUMM games, and many other early sequels followed this method as well.

I won't pay $60 for a computer game, but I don't have an issue with them charging full price for games using the same engine with minor changes. The story-line and single player games will be completely new, but multiplayer may be relatively the same between them. Even, so it is too rich for me, so I'll probably skip this release until the price comes down.

Well I suppose Company of Heroes was only half a game. You needed to buy it and its expansion to have more than one faction campaign and to have access to all the factions in multiplayer.

And Dawn of War II was also only half a game. You need to buy the other half for the complete single-player story and to have access to all the factions in multiplayer. But the other factions still haven't received their own campaign. Expect this to occur in another expansion. What a rip-off.

Dawn of War is only 1/4th of a game. To play all the campaigns and to use all the factions in multiplayer you had to buy all 3 expansions in addition to the original game.

And DIablo II, other RTS, etc.

I honestly didn't buy any of those. Well, I bought doom 2, but I never bought the first one (I just got my first decent computer as Doom 2 came out).

Usually if they use the same engine the sequels either have a massively expanded world or a completely different setting.
