Hello all, not sure where to post this. The teamliquid.net support link (from the stickied post) requires a 3 day wait before posting and the official blizzard support won't let you post at all until you install the game . . . I can't get that far.

I get this error at about 22% when trying to install:

Couldn't decompress Ogg data. If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (InstallerDecompressOgg)

Solutions I have tried:

Installing to a different location and to a different drive.
Copying the DVD files to the computer and installing from hard drive.
Installing from Safe Mode.
Installing from a "selective start up"
Instlling using only one of my computers dual core Processor's CPUs (from the Processor Affinity settings)
Crying and Swearing

None of these things have worked. I am currently downloading a copy of the game from Blizzard (i could at least register my CD Key) so in 25 short hours I'll give that a try.

Meanwhile, any help you guys can offer would be AWESOME.

Have you tried contacting Blizzard support yet?

One post on Bnet says to try installing as an Administrator. Are you logged in as an admin?

If your system is overclocked try putting it back to default. If that doesn't apply or doesn't get you anywhere you could try removing one stick of ram, or lowering the timings on your memory if you are comfortable in the bios. On patch days for WoW there are usually several people who post looking for help with crc/decompression errors, which usually seem to be brought on by memory or motherboard problems.

Could also try checking your comp with memtest:

Is it true you can use the key and download the game?

I might be talking out my ass, but I thought I heard someone say that.

Edit: NVM.

mine would consistently hang at 8%. Downloading the game worked for me. Sorry you have to wait.

and yes OCGuy, its true. You register your SC2 online using the key that is provided, so is separate from the install.

Do you have another system that you could install it on? Once installed copy the folder over to your main computer?

Well, i was able to install the game on a borrowed Macbook, so I guess that means the DVD is fine. I assume the downloaded version will have the same error I've been getting.

I hope it's not a memory issue. I'm using new RAM that was only installed a couple weeks ago. But I guess I'll try removing 1 stick of ram (2x2GB stick) and give that a go. Then, I'll give Memtest a shot to see if it comes up with anything, though I have had zero errors prior to Starcraft 2.

I've also thought about installing a newer HD and installing to there. I'm currently using some older PATA drives, but i do have a fairly new SATA drive laying around that i could try it on.

Either way, it'll have to wait until tonight.

Thanks for the replies thus far!

If the RAM thing doesn't fix it, try installing from the downloaded version. Or another way is to create an iso, mount it and install from it. you can use something like magiciso to extract the iso. you can do it in parallel with the download since that might take awhile, 7G! :)

Well, tried a few more things, still with no luck:

- I've tried removing 1 stick of ram, and tried swapping between mem slots.
- I've tried running memtest and got no errors.
- I've uninstalled my video drivers, installed a new graphics card and updated the drivers
- I tried installing the game on a borrowed Dell Laptop to ensure it wasn't a problem with the windows portion of the installer, and although i got a warning saying the system wasn't up to spec, the game installed.
- I've run disk clean up and defragged several times.

I think i've ruled out the DVD as being bad . . . would mounting/installing from an iso any difference if the DVD isn't faulty?

I'm still downloading the game (somehow went from ~66% to ~38% and it's been dragging all day . . . maybe too many people downloading now that it's the weekend.

I've had a few issues. On my gaming machine it froze up the system at the 45 percent; mark. Then my game machine died.
When I tried putting it on my office system it crashed several times before even getting started. When it did work it installed a little faster. I cant imagine why. Am pretty sure my DVD drive is the same speed on both systems. Also, the first few times I ran the game and tried to log in, it froze and crashed.

Now, everything works well. Except the fact my Radeon 5450 isnt strong enough to run the game with anything higher than minimum settings, but thats life.

Can you just copy the contents of the installed version onto the system you are having troubles installing it on? You could do this with WoW and many other games

I had installation problems and just copied the DVD to my hard disk and it worked fine. I had to remove the DVD ROM from the disk drive though as even when installing from the hard drive it seemed to be trying to read from it.

Finally got it working! The Blizzard Downloader version installed perfectly, and i was able to play several missions before my install of Windows XP died on me :p I assume this had something to do with all the crap i tried to get StarCraft Running and hopefully not something that StarCraft itself did. Either way, I've got a fresh install of Windows XP now that I'm getting all setup.

So does the fact that the downloaded version worked mean that Blizzard shipped a game that has some sort of conflict with my system? Strange . . .
