Sweet, I can't wait to pay another $60 for 1/3 of a game that should have been included with the original! And I can't wait to pay another $60 for the final 1/3 that should also have been included! yay!

As much as I don't like it, I can understand their decision. What I don't like is that if you're only interested in the multiplayer, you still have to pay for the singleplayer content to get access to the new units and maps.

It would be really nice if the multiplayer got the new units and maps for free, so the cost is clearly for the story/campaign.

Single player content? WTF are you talking about?

Blizzard broke up a whole game and is selling the pieces at full-game-prices. Fuck Blizzard.

Their whole justification for the 3 different "games" thing was that the campaigns would be much bigger and better for each race. I have no issue with that, but for those who are more interested in the multiplayer only, they get shafted with this idea.

It's going to be a $40 expansion. Still a ripoff for those only interested in multiplayer though :(

Why so mad? Most people that play SC2 (and any previous Blizzard game) got very good value for money.

They decided to sell the game in 3 installments. You have the option of not buying it or waiting until you can get it on sale. Personally, I will happily pay full retail on release day.

What is your problem? Each installment is a full game with a full campaign. It is a mere technicality that, instead of calling the releases StarCraft II/III/IV, they called them all StarCraft II with different subtitles.

You act like Blizzard is under some legal requirement to include a campaign for every race in each release. They're not.

Look, I'd be with you if each campaign only included ~10 missions like the original did, but they're longer. You have no leg to stand on here.

And how much is a WoW internet card? And there are people that have been playing it for what 7-8 years. It is expensive at ~150$ for the entire set, but there are gamers that will be playing it for the next five years. Still much better than the 4 hours single player FPS games, many of them meant to be played once or twice.

The expansions aren't $60, and Wings of Liberty had a lot more content and re-playability than 95% of the games that come out today.

I totally feel as though I got my 60.00 from the first release. And the rest will be even more icing on the cake.

They need to make money and so be it. I'll support them.

How will the new units be handled in MP? Can you just not use them if you don't have the expansion or will they splinter the player base?

Oh, good news, Wings of Liberty is just for you!

It is a full game, where I have gotten 50 hours of single-player content and hundreds of hours of multi-player content!

They definitely won't do the first option, as it doesn't make much sense balance wise.

They will either splinter the player base, a la BW, or just have everyone be able to use the units and the only content from the expansion be SP.

I'd guess they will just splinter the player base. They did it before.

Its an expansion pack in the same sense that Frozen Throne was for War3. I dont get how people dont understand that. Instead of a game with 10 missions for each race, it was 30 missions per race. They even said they are pricing it at expansion pack rates which would be $30-40.

Thats my feeling as well. There would have been an expansion regardless. Now we just get full campaigns separated by race with each expansion. Sure maybe it seems like a money grab but there are benefits for gamers as well.

We get more content for each race, plus we were able to see an earlier release date for the multiplayer portion. Blizzard also gets the benefit of getting data for balancing in multiplayer before finalizing their unit changes with each expansion. I'd much rather have major updates on disc than have to download 10+ patches.

There will probably be a separate HotS ladder where you can use the new units.

i think having separate ladders (much like BW and regular SC1) will fracture the community too much with 2 expansions for the game. blizzard is certainly aware of this, though what they have in mind to get around that problem i have no idea.

one thing you might do is limit UMS maps to each version, and let the competitive play go unaffected. it's certainly a big problem, and given blizzard's push for keeping SC2 a popular game and E-sport, they *have* to have some way of keeping the community together across 2 expansions. otherwise SC2 will most likely die.

I'm pretty sure WC3:RoC and WC3:TFT were on separate ladders too. And that lasted a while. Not sure how popular it is anymore though.

If they would fix the damn custom map system and show currently hosted games, extending the life of the game would be much easier. I don't even play customs anymore b/c I don't like the "popular" ones and no one is ever in any of the nonpopular games.
