I bought the game yesterday, i still can't log in to authenticate it (all I want is offline single player campaign).
I thought the servers are just down, but people are saying that they are playing the game.

so, what am I doing wrong?

my first problem was actually buying the game, I got unnamed error on credit card transaction... five and a half hours after the game went live I managed to get through.

[EDIT]It took me a while to find that so I hope this helps you... most people say that the looping patch issue with SC2 is because the servers are down, this is WRONG.

You need to reboot windows into safe mode with networking, then try to run the game and it will patch. repeat this until the game says it cannot run because the video card is disabled in safe mode (thats when you know its up to date)
then reboot into normal windows mode and run the game.[/EDIT]

My game is showing version 1.0.0.16117

But when I try to log into my battle net account to authenticate (It wont let me play offline without authenticating at least once) it just says "connecting" for ever (I tried every half hour since I bought the damn thing... its been 23 hours since launch, it should work by now)...

I have win7 64bit.
windows firewall is off
UAC is off
I am an administrator
I tried enabling DMZ on my router (didn't work, so i disabled it)

So... is there a known problem and solution? are some people just lucky? were the servers online for a little while before and you are now playing offline? any help would be appreciated!
(I'd ask on the SC2 forum but you need to authenticate to post on their forum... which I can't do)

Are you certain that no security software is interfering with the authorization process? Do you run any other firewall, antivirus, or defense programs that could conflict? A shot in the dark, but do you have BNet ports (TCP+UDP 6112-6119) properly forwarded through your router?

Browsing through Starcraft 2 support i read this -

We are aware that some players are receiving the following error message when attempting to log in: "There is a temporary outage of the battle.net service. Please try again later." If you are currently receiving this message, please log into Battle.net (http://www.battle.net/account) and reset your account password using the reset option. After waiting for 30 minutes, log back into the game client.

/upon further reading :

For all those who bought the digital download copy from blizzard stores, call their tech support and ask for a refund. Tell them your issue, they said it was perfectly fine to expect a refund, then rebuy the game on a new account (make sure you sign up using us.battle.net).

For all those who are "sure' you're on a NA account - you're wrong. It's what website you SIGNED UP ON. So even if it says that you're an NA account, you aren't. My address was US, it said in the top right "North America," etc. and when I bought the game it auto purchased the NA game for me. Yet when I called Blizzard they said I was Europe, and although I personally couldn't see it, they could.

PS. I was on hold for 57 minutes yesterday before they picked up, while the automated message said it was estimated as a 21 minute wait. Patience!

i used DMZ to forward all ports (the starcraf 2 support page was copy pasted from the WOW page, it specifically says WOW.. so I didn't know if the ports changed, so just to be sure I used DMZ), I don't have a firewall program, I disabled windows firewall, I didn't disable anti virus (ESET anti virus)... it shouldn't matter though since it has no firewall.

"There is a temporary outage of the battle.net service. Please try again later."
That isn't what I am getting.

What is their phone number? My account says:
StarCraft II®: Wings of Liberty
[SCII-1]
North America (NA)

but according to you that is an error and I need to get a refund and rebuy it... well, I looked and I can't find a phone number to call them at.

EDIT: While I couldn't find anything but a useless FAQ via the blizzard website navigation, a google search for "blizzard phone number" produced results (on their website too), I called and I got the following message "unfortunately our hold queue is currently full".

EDIT2: I am not the only one with this problem, but I was hoping it was like the looping patch issue... most people said the looping patch issue is because the battle.net servers are down... ONE person mentioned that booting into safemode with networking allowed it to install, and that person was right.
I was hoping that this also has a simple solution.

Support is : Account Services - 1-800-592-5499

One way to check this is to create a new battlenet account, use one of your guest passes....make sure everything is North America....you should be able to connect that way...The support forum has a 4 page thread on teh exact issues you are having...almost everything points to a EU/NA issue...

I didn't get any.

Do you have a link?
its quite impossible for people with MY problem to post on the blizzard forum... you see, you can't post until you create a character, and I can't create a character until I authenticate the game... people are posting with a VARIETY of issues different to my own, but those with my issue cannot post on the support forum, cause blizzard are fucktards.
However, many people with my issue are posting on other, non blizzard forums.

anyways, I was looking through the tech support forum and found many different issues, but not my issue.

1-800-592-5499
thanks... I already found it via google search, I still only get busy signal OR if I get through, an automatic notice saying the hold queue is full.

thank you, I really appreciate all the help. I looked at this thread and this is a wholly different issue then the one I am having.
I did get that notice, once, just now... what I did was:
1. reinstall starcraft 2 (and repatch via safemode)
2. start login (takes 2 seconds before the loading image i have displayed above load)
3. quickly after clicking the "login" page hit options... and changed the resolution.

when I changed the resolution, it aborted the login with the message: "There is a temporary outage of the battle.net service. Please try again later."
it has never done so before or afterwards, while people who have been experiencing it have not done a resolution change during the login process... so i seriously doubt that this is what I am having... I could have a similar problem with similar causes, but at the moment I don't know if I am... I can't talk to customer support to fix said problem though, because the lines are all busy.

also, I was unable to post at forums.battle.net until I create a character... however, the forum you linked is us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum
this one... mmm, this one ALSO doesn't allow me to post: "You need a StarCraft II character (created in-game) to post on the forums."

if you can post there, could you please post a thread there referring to this one?

Woah wait a second. So this whole issue you had spanning multiple forums and threads was because you had peerblock running.

/facepalm

I'm about as stunned as you. How could somebody go through the process of unblocking things on the router and antivirus, yet not disable the program on the computer specifically designed to block internet traffic.

Oh well... good thing you got it working I guess! :awe:

Good luck. I got it on DVD from the store today. Also set up a fresh Battle Net account and that place looks completely different from the last time I saw it (years ago). But everything worked fine for me, aside from the LONG install where it froze my machine and I had to start from scratch.
As for guys buying online or using an old account or having any login difficulties, I cant imagine how you would deal with it. Am sure their tech support is getting hammered right now.

Wait, did I just read this correctly? You couldnt get it running why?
MORON!

Oh well, this could maybe end up as the official troubleshooting thread.

You'd better change your sig. God could've had that fixed in no time.

But congrats on getting it running tho!

Just sad that he blames Blizzard at first.

It happens, at least it got resolved. OP you should update the title/post though to reflect that it is resolved and how. Might help other people if they are having the same issue.

one of the issues, there were others. peerblock was the last thing i needed to get through.

Just sad that he blames Blizzard at first.

it is their fault, they could have easily gone with a serial key authentification like before. The compatibility issue with peerblock is one of many they are/were having.

btw, if you are going after single achivements, hope your internet connection doesn't hiccup, you can't get any achievements then and have to restart (i guess they are worried about people cheating on single player achievements; ugh!)

WAIT, what? You INTENTIONALLY block traffic to their IP address with a separate program. A program designed to facilitate the illegal use of bittorent, and then you blame blizzard for your problem?!?! There is no "compatibility issue" with peerblock, peerblock intentionally blocks blizzard, not the other way around. You used the internet to purchase your product, and then complain when the internet is used ONCE to authenticate the product.

Oh and by the way, the reason safe mode worked to update is that the peerblock service wouldn't run at startup in safe mode. I understand your frustration in trying to play the game, but when you found out that it was your fault it wasn't working, you still try and blame "the big bad game company". That is where I lose respect and any sympathy for you.

Compatibility issue with Peerblock? Peerblock was doing its job as a program, there's no incompatibility. If you want a program to get through you need to add it to the allow list. There's even custom lists kicking around the interweb that are tailored to certain setups.

A program designed to facilitate the illegal use of bittorent

peer guardian was limited to blocking anti p2p organizations. peerblock also blocks adware and spyware and malware.
furthermore, not all uses of bittorrent are illegal. even if you are getting cracks, if you have bought the game than it is legal in many countries.
Even in the USA, for example, the DMCA had a provision where the library of congress will listen to arguments about exemptions every 4 years and make exemptions to it. In the most recent one they have just made exemptions for bypassing the DRM on games you legally purchased in such conditions (aka, the DRM is no longer compatible with current OS).
but yes, you COULD be blocking those organizations because you are wishing to engage in illegal filesharing. (either to pirate, or to fix your DRM crippled games).

finally, I do not blame blizzard for peerblock having blocked them; But I do blame blizzard for putting unnecessary and obtrusive DRM that facilitated this even being an issue, and will cause many more to come. 20 years from now, my purchased copy of SC2 will not work anymore. Not without a crack at least.
And blizzard is not "the big evil company", I have nothing but respect for corporations, even big ones... but blizzard is being stupid right now, they are falling into the DRM trap. It merely drives away people who would buy their games, and encourages those to pirate it instead. It harms their customers, but does not even bother the pirates, who had it cracked and working 2 hours and 22 minutes after release. This does not make them evil, it makes them stupid.
