But are they safe? The ingredients list reads like a chemical supplies catalog.

I read once that women swallow about 7 kg of lipstick a year, so obviously anything you put on your lips eventually gets swallowed.

Think for a second. A stick of lipstick contains around 4g of substance. About 1800 sticks of lipstick would have to be eaten during one year to equal 7 kg.
