Honestly, I stopped reading when the lawyer said "enthused".

Star Bock... Starbucks... Not too confusing, in my opinion.

Not as bad as the dude suing Lost Coast Brewery's Indica India Pale Ale on behalf of all Hindus around the world, seeking $1 billion in damages for using their god on the label.

Although Starbucks might have a chance, I've seen worse rulings

Why haven't they sued the new Battlestar Galactica show, for having a "Star Buck" on it?

lawyers have been too busy beating up non-incorporated entities.

Anheuser-Busch won the sole use of the "Budweiser" name in the courts. If that can happen then I can totally see Starbucks winning this one.

That is their brand name so it makes sense.. this is a slightly different name

well, i dont think they have out right won...

England: both breweries can use the name Budweiser and Bud
Austria: AB can use the term Bud, but not Budweiser (i think)

most of thsoe battles are occuring overseas...

I was refering to the US usage of the name "Budweiser" as a brand name.

EDIT:
In the US they won. Before 1939 anyone could make a Budweiser beer (budweiser was a style, like bock). After the court ruling only Anheuser-Busch could make and sell that beer in the US. It was a side effect of the brand name fight with the Czech company.

becasue the "starbuck" character is older than the retail coffee chain...
I dunno who they got the license to use the name from BSG anyway...

I could maybe see them winning if he had a similar logo on the beer. Otherwise, I don't imagine anyone would think the two were related if you saw the beer in a store.

All these pushy corporate lawsuits really have the opposite affect on me than what the company wants.

I remember first getting PO'd with McDonalds awhile back when they were sueing mom-n-pop restaurant owners world-wide, who happened to be named McDonald (a somewhat common name), from using their own name in their family restaurant name.

I've since not stepped foot in a McDonalds.

Now I add Starbucks to the list.

About 10-12 years ago, Choice Hotels was developing a budget line of hotels to go alone with Comfort Inn, Quality Inns, etc. The new one was to be called McSleep Inn. McDonalds took them to court over the name and won. That's why it's simply Sleep Inn now.

I could see Starbucks winning this thing.

How many places sell both Beer and Coffee? Not many compared to how many sell one or the other. I doubt anyone's going to get them confused when you order Star Bock in a bar (they won't try to find coffe for you) and vice versa...

How many people have ever mistaken beer for coffee?

...although I've seen people paying $5 for a beer....
