Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts?

Crono

Lifer
I'm not a coffee connoisseur, and Dunkin' Donuts is cheaper, so I usually go there. I have a lot of friends who prefer (some can't live without the stuff, apparently) Starbucks, though.
Which do you prefer?

Dunkin hands down.

I like Starbucks for iced liquid candy drinks but Dunkin for actual hot coffee and iced coffee.

DD is sometimes better than Starbucks, but there's a huge amount of inconsistency to DD brew. Some locations make a very watery coffee.

That said, I prefer other coffee.

I never get attitude in starbucks. I just get coffee that has a nice bitterness and flavor that I want in a cup of coffee. If I want a cup of overly sweetned coffee-flavored candy in a cup, I'll go to Dunkin Donuts.

Where's the option for I hate coffee?

You might be able to get your wheatgrass tea at a coffee shop.

That being said, I have never been to a DD. I have purchased their coffee and it is not bad, which is to be expected since it is manufactured by Folgers.

Stop putting so much sugar in your coffee.

We don't have DD here, but if it's anything like Tim Horton's, I am going to have to pick Starbucks. Tim Horton's coffee tastes like urine.

When I want coffee primarily, it's Starbucks.. and sometimes I get a sour-cream donut there..

Dunkin's coffee is damned good.

🙁 I love Tims...according to your theory though that means that I also love urine, I've learned so much about myself in the past 10 seconds.

oops failed quote, that was supposed to be Keith's quote 😛

I think coffee quality all comes from the quality of the beans and the quality of the roast. Both Starbucks and Dunkin are great. There's a store at work that has a Starbucks dispenser. http://blogs.msdn.com/mikewalk...ttachment/1134071.ashx

There's a coffee shop around the corner from the store run by Java City. I stopped going to JC because the Startbucks machine made better coffee and was consistent...I knew what I was getting even though sometimes the beans have more of a burnt flavor than other times. (meaning the machine needs to be cleaned on busy days) Even with that, it's still better than coffee made by the employees.

There aren't any Dunkin locations around, but I can honestly say I like their coffee even better than Starbucks. It's balanced and high quality. What I'd like to see is the Starbucks machine with Dunkin beans....

Well, who am I to say which warm liquids you should drink! 😛

Seriously though, I like my coffee very strong and very black, with no sugar or milk/cream, so Tim's doesn't cut it for me because it's usually quite weak.

either will do the trick in a pinch, but i prefer to make my own coffee. my family just brought back 3 lbs of kona coffee from hawaii. i'm set for a while 🙂

I agree. i don't think the beans that either place use are bad, but the batches can be brewed badly, eg. too strong or too watered down and burnt. with that said, i've only bought DD beans once for home use and it was really bad. broken beans and chips for the most part.

That's how I drink my coffee too, and I find it good, I actually buy the cans to make at home too.

I'm sure though, that warm liquids that I enjoy drinking are different from the ones you enjoy drinking 😉

Yeah...human factor makes a big difference. People who don't understand that clean equipment, filtered water, and fresh beans are important to a good pot of coffee don't need to be making it. I like the machine because it has enough turnover that the beans are fresh, water is filtered because the machine is plumbed...the only human factor has to do with how often the machine is serviced and cleaned. It's usually spotless.

A lot of companies will turn the beans in a drum with small holes in it to get those little pieces out of the batch. I agree with you on that...the small pieces can ruin a pot/cup of coffee. When a bean's exterior is compromised, the oil dries out a lot quicker and you end up missing out on the real flavor of the bean...it's the oil that you're trying to extract from the coffee when you brew it. That's why coffee gets old.
