Starbound beta to be released on Dec. 4th/Burned out on video games

So after many months the beta is finally available. Really looking forward to seeing how the game is. I've seen tons of screenshots and a few live plays, but finally being able to try it out first hand is gonna be exciting.

I was recently reading that thread about being burned out on video gaming and that definitely describes me. The only game I've been remotely interested in lately has been Terraria and Starbound. The reason these 2 titles are so interesting is because it's a fairly new genre. It's a step beyond Minecraft (which I could never get into) and just a refreshing new experience. Sure elements of these games have been present before, but never have they been assembled in this way.

I remember when GTA3 was first released, it was such an amazing game because it was a huge open world sandbox game. Before long similar games were all over the place. But oddly enough despite the fact that Terraria has been so successful, I have'nt seen any major developers working on a similar project. But at any rate, I'm really excited to finally get my hands on SB later this week.

I'm kinda surprised by the lack of response to this game. But then again I've noticed on these forums a lot of people don't seem to care for indie developed games. I'm really hoping this game will do well though, it really is one of the more well developed and uniquely interesting games in the indie community.

I'm interested in it. I love Terraria, my kids love Terraria... but I never bothered to "preorder/fund/back" Starbound, so I guess I won't be getting to beta test it. I was following development for a while, but lack of any real public content "meat" had me wander away.

Too much going on right now to actually worry about and prioritize over gaming I guess.

It looks interesting enough. I have watched quite a few gameplays of it and it looks reasonable. But I learnt last year and alas this year to avoid games in beta. A ruined experience initially always results in me going off a game rapidly so I'll wait for the release.

I can understand that. I have a lot of faith in the developers of this game even though they are a new outfit. I've been following this game for nearly a year and there's been a lot of love and hard work put into it. I'm nearly done downloading it from Steam, once I finally get it installed play with it a bit I'll do a short write up before the week is out.
