Star Wars Trilogy for an xmas present

I'm thinking about getting someone the Star Wars Trilogy box set for xmas. I'm confident he'll like it but like me, I know he'd wish he had got something else if Lucre ends up releasing a much better box set of the 3. These days it seems the norm to release incrementally better versions of the same film year after year until you finally release what everyone wanted in the first place just so they end up buying two versions.

I never understood why he didnt do a perfect solution and satisfy both the star wars nuts and his "artistry" by having a DVD where you could select which version to watch. I've seen it in other films, they just include the extra scenes as seperate files or whatever and your menu selection chooses whether they're included in the film. Actually I dont know why all film's with extra scenes arent done this way, but whatever.

If he ever does release another version it won't be the original. Lucas has already stated that he doesn't give a damn what anyone else wants, he was disappointed by the original movies and he wants to make them "better", to fit his vision of what he wants them to be. In other words the movies are for him alone, and you should feel blessed that he will share them with you in their current form. The fact that he makes a little money on the side is secondary to his vision.

So no, I don't think they will ever be rereleased. He has already tweaked the the original three to conform with the storyline in Ep. 1-3 and he won't ned to mess with them anymore.

Well you know there will at least be a 6 piece set sometime after Episode 3 is released. And you know that won't be the end. Lucas feels that film is a medium that is never finished, can always be improved, and he's said he'll continue doing it. It's just one of those things that you have to jump on at some point, or you'll keep waiting and never get them. Now would be a good time, the Original Trilogy on DVD, and then if you're into it you can get the other trilogy separately.

thats the weird thing, I have seen ONE dvd done this way. The menu had an option to play either the cinematic or extended version. The extended version simply had extra scenes. I'm 99% sure they did it with some smart-arse technique rather than simply sticking two films in there - maybe like that winblows CD that was 900mb because they had a bunch of files in more than one directory and just cheated the file table to have multiple entries pointing to the same disk sectors.

Thanks guys, Star Wars Trilogy version 1.02 it is then 😉
