**THREAD CONTINUED HERE http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2212462 **

So, roughly one week from now, those of us with The Old Republic pre orders will venture into the world in all its glory. But what fun is it to explore a world by yourself? I don't know about you all, but very few, if any, of my RL friends play MMO's, and none that I have talked to have expressed interest in playing The Old Republic. I suspect many of you are in the same boat. Thus, I propose we start an AT Guild!

Now, we certainly do not have to call ourselves anything related to AT, but I think it would be great if we could decide on a side and stick together as we level.

Now, I have not wanted to spoil the experience, so I have not participated in the beta, but I have experience running both casual and hardcore MMO guilds over the past 5 years in WoW. I do plan to raid in the end-game, and as such, those of you who have experience in the ToR beta who plan to do the same would provide great insight and leadership in that aspect. I suspect many would also like to PvP, and that would also be encouraged (group PvP, we will not be playing on a PvP server).

In essence, I would like to form this guild more around a sense of community as opposed to restricting the guild to only those who share the same end-game goal. Those who enjoy the idea of playing at night, and being able to discuss the previous night's adventures, or plan the next night's would be the target audience.

There is no obligation to stay in the guild if your goal come level 50 does not gel with what I am proposing.

In summary, I'm hoping we can decide upon a name and side. I'll attach a poll and will create the guild based on the poll. Please only vote if you truly intend to play.

Please feel free to post any comments or concerns in the thread as well as any guild names you might have.

Has to be a PvP server, assuming PvP is any good.

They had some interesting things to make PvE server pretty open for PvP.

1. Flagging for PvP wherever
2. Planet wide PvP Zone
3. PvP Specific areas

I played on PvP servers for so long because it was the thing to do, but in the end it just came down to being griefed by some higher level "owning" my lowbies questing. The changes of PvE servers in TOR seems to add to the PvP experience without the griefing. I'm not going to waste my time on some idiot wasting his just to prevent me from playing.

PVP is a disqualifier here.. I'm much too old and over getting ganked while trying to do my thing..

there are plenty of PVP opportunities even on PVE servers.

Outlaws Den, Warzones, Illum and you can always flag on any contested world if you have the want to participate...

I always thought it was better to have a level range, say, 5 for example, a level 50 can't attack anyone less than 45. A fail, I think, not to do it that way; and I'm talking about PvP servers.

Interesting... I'll add another poll.

Edit: If I can figure out how to edit the poll! :X

Oops sorry I see a poll and just clicked. Didn't read the whole post until after I voted

I will be rolling dark side but already have a guild with some friends from WoW. Just ignore my vote.

Interested in an AT guild, not overly concerned with side although I plan to play both.
Not interested in a PVP server. Too old to deal with gankers.
Not interested in hardcore. Too active raiding real life to get tied into mandatory 5 days a week raiding again.

Ok, the consensus seems to be a non-PvP server. I will add this to the OP.

Oh, good, someone else started this thread so I don't have to.

You forgot the most important thing about avoiding PvP servers: less internet-kid playerbase. (Same reason I'm planning to avoid "cool" sounding name servers like, well, Revan and HK-47.)

need to add to poll: US East/US West (servers are in VA and CA)

Did anyone test cross-country latency in beta?

My preference is PVE-RP servers. They (usually) seem to have slightly more mature populations. Haven't heard yet if TOR will have RP servers tho.

Edit: Apparently they will. Should've googled it.

HK-47? You mean that's not a PvP server, lol?

Revan, Malak, and HK-47 were prominent servers in the test phase.

Appreciate all the interest so far.

Any suggestions on guild name? Serious or silly, all are welcome. I'd like to make this as much about "us" and less about "me" as possible.

Not sure. After the beta, I know I want to roll a gunslinger, but I also want to roll a sorceror, and dunno which is gonna be the main.

But no preferences on east coast/west coast?

Honestly, that was an oversight on my part to include that in the polls. I cannot figure how to edit the thread to include additional polls. If anyone is aware, shoot me a PM.

I'm interested if it's not PvP or RP and I prefer east coast.

I wanted to play the dark side as well, but I'm open. No HC either, I'm sure there's gonna be times when I can sink 30 hours in totally by accident of course, but it won't be often and I don't want to have to commit to that much play time.

I'm down with AT/AT :)

I did.

My latency to West Coast servers was ~25-35ms from the L.A. area.
Latency to East Coast servers was ~100-110ms.

And to Ireland, around 150ms.

Hope that helps.

I was at 22-25ms to West Coast from washington DC.
16-19ms to east coast servers
75-80ms to Europe.

Sounds like the kind of guild I want to be apart of for the first few months of this game. I wanna take my time on my first toon and after it hits 50 I'll be more end game focused. At first I wanted to play the SI but didn't like the direction their story was headed. So I am down for anything.

EDIT: I don't promise to be a goody goody on the Republic side, or a complete ahole on the Empire side. During the beta I picked the choices that made "sense" to me.
