is there a chronology of when this takes place in reference to the films?

i thought i read in the opening that it was thousands of years or so...

Jedi Knight series is in the starwars movie-era. KOTOR was thousands of years before.

if its thousands of years before...why do things look so similar? i mean, im at the beginning of the game...

4000 years?
do the books work like that too?
have things just sort of hit their technological/social height and remained there for thousands of years?

Heh, I asked one of my friends the same question just because I hate Star Wars now thanks to Lucas's Episodes 1&2 and want to ruin it for others in any way I can.

I had a good time with the game for as long as I could stand playing it. It was Baldur's Gate in space pretty much. I'm really looking forward to Jade Empire.
