I suppose its ok, but for a boxed set that we have been waiting years for, at least they are not gouging us like $100

I wouldn't jump on this too quickly. I was waiting on Indiana Jones forever and the price on that set at release was awesome pretty much everywhere.

LOL, checked bestbuy to see if it was up yet, look what category they had the prequel under:

Star Wars Episode 1 & 2 (2 Disc) (P&S)
MPAA Rating: PG
Release Date: 11/12/2002
Browse more: General Horror

I guess they didn't like the new movies ;)

what's on the 4th disc ?

that's a pretty good price. But do you know if this is the original edition or the special edition (I prefere the second one).

Hopefully there will be more deals on this.

considering 3 movies @ $12 per DVD + $6 for extra disc...this price isn't too bad and will most likely rise to $50 after release.

I heard it is the Special Edition only, Lucas will never consider making a DVD version of the original becaue it was not what he wanted it to be.

Waiting for this and the Last Fellowship of the Ring Special Extended version.

This is special edition, as Lucas said he's never releasing original edition again. I prefer the original edition for about 4 reasons. 1) Han Solo is the kinda guy who would shoot FIRST not 2nd. 2nd Gets you dead fast. WTF was lucas thinking? 2) I like the celebration of original better, and the music was better. 3) The stupid new dance routine for Jabba is just plain silly. 4) Jabba meeting Han Solo in the New Hope movie? haahhahahah. He looked retarded, plus he was way bigger in the Empire Strikes back.
But looks like we dont get a choice, as I said, lucas has publically said he will never release original version again, only special. And he's said that this DVD set will be only the special edition.

BTW, amazon has this for $41.99 as well. If buy.com wants to charge you tax, order from amazon.com

Here is a link to an article you might want to read about this.
Link
I have also read that the versions on DVD will have even more changes than the second release did. I can not find that article right now though.

Also here is what the new DVD boxes will look like.

Accoriding to dvd.ign.com if I remember correctly, one version will be the Special Editions as they were released, then the set with the Darth Vader head is a new version with some additional changes (including, as they said, making Han shoot first again).

But I don't think anyone is quite sure yet.

You can always order and cancel later if you find a better deal or if you change your mind. They shouldn't charge you until it gets shipped.

They are always doing that. I went into BB to get a copy of Haiku Tunnel. I couldn't find it in the comedy section, so I asked the dude where it was. "Oh, thats over in drama, let me get it for you." He gets it and hands it to me. I take it and show him the cover, which says "Haiku Tunnel, AN OFFICE COMEDY".

Whoever is supposed to determine the genre of DVDs at BB must have had his job outsourced to India

You can always download the nonredacted original trilogy from BitTorrent. Or, if you prefer doing it yourself, you can buy the original trilogy on laserdisc or videodisc on eBay and digitize it.

Lucas will release the originals on DVD once the sales of these DVDs has slowed. It will be some special super duper orignal trilogy set.

Didn't Lucas say the same thing about releasing Star Wars on DVD (that it would never happen)?

Lucas said he would not release any of the Star Wars movies on DVD until the whole thing could come out as a box set. When I saw the Phantom Menace on DVD I was shocked. If you read the link to the article I posted eariler I doubt he will rerelease the old ones. He wanted to have the special effects of today back then so according to him the original movies do not exist as they were.

Yeah, I have a feeling that they are all gonna come out together. So if you want to buy this box set, plan on buying another set when you want to get the first three...It's just a way to suck every dollar out of the people.

I AGREE
i don't mind the other additions..but damn the han solo shooting 2nd and the crappy ending sequence w/ the crappy music at the end of return of the jedi sucked...the original w/ the original music and celebration was a ton lot better

Han Solo fired first. No way will I line the artistically bankrupt Lucas' pockets for butchered versions of the first trilogy.

Also, the item is not hot since everyone knows Lucas will make you pay for these discs again later as part of a super happy fun box once his greed overcomes his reluctance to let people see the less childishly PC versions of the films.

Well, all you guys can complain all you like about Han Solo shooting first. I'm not going to. I'm just going to recut the movie(s) and reburn them to DVD-R so I can get them as close to the originals as I can. :)
