Never played the first one. Everyone says it's great, I should probably play it before trying this one. What engine does it use?

malak,yep first one was brilliant.

I recommend you try it ,since the KOTOR2 sort of follows on few years down the road from the last one,but with whole new characters and storyline..

I know the UK release date is still 11th Feb,got my copy preordered ;).

I absolutely loved the first one. I played through it 4 times. 3 times evil, and once good. So much replay value. Anyways, I'm hearing mixed reviews from people who loved the first one, so I do have slight reservations, but I'll still probably pick it up. :)

Ok... it's a DX9 game ported from the Xbox, WTF does it require OpenGL 1.4 compliance?

I'm one who was a huge fan of the first, played through about half a dozen times all together(bought it for the Box when it first came out, then again for the PC). I have yet to finish Sith Lords but I'm pretty far into the game and so far I wouldn't hesitate to give it a very strong reccomendation. The story doesn't seem quite as strong as the first one(although it still would make my short list of best in a game ever) but the new characters, powers and other options added to the gameplay really give part II a bit of a leg up over the first one in terms of gameplay IMO. Not sure how much further I have to go, it appears that you can become significantly more powerful in this one if my current progress is any indication- but I would say the length must be at least the equal of the first if not a decent amount longer.

I do know when you have Kreia as an active party member in KOTOR2 you get more experience points, also the level cap is supposed to be a lot higher.

In the first KOTOR I was a bit annoyed that I reached my highest level cap before the end of the game, makes those quests and experience points useless after that stage.

I didn't much care for the first for some reason. I played it through to the part where you're captured and held on the imperial ship and have to choose a member of your party to get you out. Mem or the others can tell you how close to the end that is. I played for quite a while but stopped enjoying it for the most part after the first week or so.

Sold it after that so didn't try it again (something I usually do with games I drop out of the first time around).

Because it uses OpenGL. It does not use DirectX

I rented and beat the second one last week on XBox. I will say it was as fun as if not somewhat better then the first one. Which is to say lots of fun.

I too am about halfway through (24 hours, or so), and I completely agree with everything you said.

This game rocks!

Short interview with Mike Gallo (LucasArts Producer) about the PC version of KOTOR2.

Link.

We have resized the interfaces so they will now look right when playing at resolutions up to 1600x1200. We also have high-res textures and other high-end graphics-card features that are enabled. The game really shines on the PC in those areas.

Finished the game first time through(light side) and although the story goes from extremely good to extremely bad like someone hit a switch(you can tell where they entered rush mode- you can actually pinpoint exactly where they went from 'make it good' to 'make it ship')- the gameplay elements and first ~25 hours or so of the storyline make the title well worth a strong buy.

I'd say the game is easily better then anything that I've played on the PC this year in terms of single player- although that has mainly been the big shooters. Very let down by how rushed the end of the game is, in terms of level design and storyline- although that could mainly be in comparison to how extremely well done the earlier parts of the game were. Sith Lords doesn't end up being as good as its predecessor, but it still is an extremely good title overall.

KOTOR2 short preview@Gamespot .

As expected, the PC version of the game looks and plays a lot better than the Xbox version. Not only does the PC support higher resolutions and antialiasing, but it also features higher-resolution textures. Meanwhile, the frame rate is generally very smooth and fluid, which is a sharp contrast to some of the low frame rates in the Xbox version.
