No offense, but guys like you is why I get sick of MMORPGs so fast.

Casual gamers like myself just have a hard time getting into a game outside of the preset story arc because we get our asses handed to us by people that have FAR more time to devote to the game than we do.

I played SWG when it first came out a long time ago. My main character was a Master Doctor/Master Carbineer I believe. Had fun up until I tried PvP and just got anally raped because I wasn't a Bounty Hunter or Commando.

You don't even know me so don't generalize me. I love PVP in SWG but I love the PVE that much more. The fact that the PVE is directly related to the PVP now its all the more fun.

Not to mention, there are only 9 professions and all but 1, the trader, is viable for combat. Simply put, even an entertainer can own face in both PVE and PVP. Not quite sure if you have been through the last 2 major systems but the Doctor AND the Carb were quit powerful builds.

Now the Medic is simply the hardest 1 on 1 class there is and not even a jedi can beat a well played Medic. Medics can take on 2 players at once. They might not win but they won't loose. So give the game a go or not... but don't put me in the lot of the 'guys like you' lot without playing a game with me.

Don't take it as an insult because it's not meant to be.

I'm a father of two and might be lucky to play PC games for 2 hours a week. It's just not possible for someone like me to ever get into your league.

So don't think I'm implying that you do nothing but play SWG. If it came off like that, I apologize. However, having the time to come up with such powerful builds and to customize and tweak them so delicately... I just could never do that in such limited playing time and it left me in the least powerful minority of players.

I played when the game first came out. Bounty Hunter and Commando ruled all in PvP. What was someone supposed to do when an Imperial Commando walked up with their AT-ST pet and constantly knocked them down?

Idk ... I was a master pistoleer pre-CU & my main account was ruined ... I've been tempted to go back & try again several times, but the OP's description of the great new SWG sounds like more of the same crap that made me quit the first time.

I hate being forced to join a guild & team up with a bunch of people in order to have any chance to play, so unless I can solo some of the time & have fun doing it, I want no part of it.

There is no way that the game is any good anymore. The crafting system was more complex then any other crafting system ever, and will probably never be matched. I had fun fun selling +1600 buffs for 50k credits as a master doctor, soloing the nightsister elder as master of tera kasi, making 79% composite armor as a master armorsmith, cleaning out the geonosian caves as a master pistoleer, going krayt hunting as a master commando. Now you cant do any of that, so no thanks!

Actually....................................

You can.

1) The crafting system has all the goodness it used to. An armorsmith is a Munitions Trader. Not only can he go anywhere in the game but he can also use the best of the best armor and weapons. The Munitions Trader is also the weaponsmith too. Expertise Calculator

2) I make about 200k to 1m on my entertainer doing buffs. If you like combat characters that buff then roll an entertainer. You can dabble in the expertises to make a combat char that also has buffing extras. Going into PVE and PVP without entertainer buffs is like going to highschool naked. Seriously.

3) Teraskasi is now built into every melee class in some shape or form. You can have elements of TK as a medic ( remember Doctor/TKA! ) or Smuggler/TKA ( Pistols + melee ) or the Spy! The entertainer combat profession is the Hand to Hand from TKA.

You don't have the title TKA but you sure do have the elements of it. Oh, and Krayt hunting is still alive and well... especially for commando's. You wont' solo the Ancients... but the normal ones you should do fine if your buffed up.

They reactivated everyones accounts for 21 days a few days ago. I was bored so I decided to give it a fair shot. I really haven't played the game since launch other than trying the CU right after it was released. Well, after 2 days I have a level 14 Commando and I have been enjoying it quite a bit. It is a bit dated and has its fair share of bugs, but I still can't stop playing! I really like the main "Legacy" quest and how it continues until level 70ish.

Blame the devs, not the players. SOE (and unfortunately Blizzard) seem to believe that a gear gap allowing people to be 5 times as powerful as others their level is fine and dandy.

Saddest part is they do this for a select few of their players, perhaps 0.1% or less who are the top tier raiders.

If they would have just turned battlefront or kotor into an mmo it would have been fine. But sony will probably ride this pig into the ground so who knows when we'll get another chance at one.

Yeah, seriously. It looked like they had over 20 servers, and when I first created a new character at least half of them were listed as "Medium" population and probably 25% were listed as "High". No clue on what those actually mean, but I was just surprised to see they had that many servers going.

Yup!

The main reason why people are coming is the tons of new stuff tht there is to do ...

Rank up in GCW / PvP

Beast mastery (old creature handler, only a LOT more fun)

Legacy quests (do them on a new toon I rolled, had a blast)

Hero quests

Old cities being cleaned up

Harder NPCs

... also the Aurillian Village is making a comeback

I was considering giving this game a go again, but then I saw photographs from the recent SWG "fan-faire." Those photographs were the most depressing thing I had seen in a long, long time. I know that these fan things aren't necessarily representative, but still... it turned me away (the game is also four years old and has a ultra low-budget staff these days).

Edit: Yeah, here are the photos.

The game still feels empty,I went to agro (pirate outpost on dant) and in the old days you had loads of groups waiting to grind etc (all levels) however I saw hmm one person,Mos Eisley was quiet too,PvP is all well if you are into that but I miss being able to group at virtually any major place ,game is dying from what I have seen ,yes mobs are tougher and there have been some improvements, but enough to get the masses back I don't think so.

My guild town has gone from 100+ members to a ghost town of only 10 houses since NGE,I only saw one person from my ex-guild still playing and he only came back 3 months ago.

Personally I think SWG should die and something like KOTOR online should be made, don't get me wrong I loved SWG pre CU it was the best MMORPG IMHO,quite sad what I see in SWG now, I miss the old professions, skills too.

How does this game compare to WoW? Especially the players - are they as young and obnoxious?

I found SWG players were mature in their attitude (all ages),WoW players well a lot of them are annoying and inmature to say the least from my experience of both games.

It's annoying for an MMO to have immature or obnoxious players, since community is what makes an MMO interesting (at least for me).

If I can find more than 2-3 other people playing the game... then I might have a better idea. The few that I have run into haven't been obnoxious...

Well I wish I hadn't seen this post. I logged on, was at my house in the city I founded. Friends list intact. I kept typing "is anyone there" , drove to Coronet "is anyone there" I saw not a single person on Wanderhome. A nd it's friday night!

Brought back lots of memories, made me feel very sad. Saw my friend Pren's house...spent a whole summer with him.

I'm guessing you were on one of the backwater servers ... try Bria, Ahazi or one of the bigger servers. Hell, on Bria it's hard find to place to put down a few houses in the same area.

I played on Wanderhome, some time a year ago I did the free trail to check out Wanderhome, there were just a few players in Coronet but more on Tatooine, not much more though.

What player city?
