Star Wars Galaxies Is Dying...

I did not want to believe it, but it looks like the game may be unfixable in its current form. They have to break two old features just to implement one new one (Current harvester/schematic/database taxing objects nerf being the current case in point, so they can implement Player Cities). I suspect in a few months they will be offering 50,000 credits and a house and vehicle of your choice to anyone that will start/continue to play, a la TSO. Also look for a reduction of the number of servers (a la Asheron's Call 2) in the not-so-distant future.

I hope they have a special spot in Hell reserved for people like Raph Koster.

i think /. had a story somewhere on the /. Games site about anarchy online being available for download...free, expansion included, so you only have to pay the monthly fee

dunno how good the game is, im not into the MMORPG thing at all

That's too bad, I was going to look back into SWG after about 6 months from launch in hopes they made good on all the things they preached about during beta testing. Have they done anything with Jedi or are they still not in the game?

They claim that the code for Jedi is in the game, but I suspect they are lying. The Devs have been asking all this time, "Has anyone found Luke Skywalker yet?" when he was only just now implemented on the Test Center server, let alone going live.

People are quitting the game in droves, and they have locked down the SWG forums so that only people with active subscriptions to the game can read them, probably so that potential customers cannot read them and see all of the negative things being said about the game.

Not quite right. The forums are only for those that have active subscriptions AND are a member of the fan club.

I am a cynical SOB, but I think this is so they can "ban" the "trouble-makers" while still allowing them to have the game account to make money off of them.

But I may be wrong.

Whatever you do, don't play EVE Online. Talk about tedium.... tedium in space even. Yikes. Played for 1 week. Mining blows.

some people love it some people hate it

just one thing, whatever you do dont play solo, get a few friends to join you in a corp or join a friendly corp right away

This game was dying after week one. I paid my $50 for the box, got my free month's worth, realized it was shite, and sold the game for pennies on the dollar here. I'm as big a star wars fan there is, and this game shouldn't share the same name....

im avoiding SWG like the plauge

hope to get Knights of the Old Republic when its availalbe on PC though...

you know, SWG just isn't a fun game to play. It's complex, has nice graphics, however it just doesn't work. I have a real easy way to judge games. Any game I'm playing, I ask myself 1 question : "Would I rather be playing Tecmo Bowl?" If the answer is yes, then the game doesn't make the grade. SWG definitely is not as good as Tecmo Bowl.

I don't see how it's ever a good idea to plunk down $50 for software that won't work without paying a monthly fee that is constantly in a state of flux, performance based on centralized servers, and my enjoyment is based on the # of subscribers and their interaction

Good point. I'd rather be playing Pac-Man.

I just stopped playing it a few weeks ago. It got boring F-A-S-T!

You get to run everywhere. Get a couple missions then run out to them, when your finished, run back then run, run, run, run... The game needs vehicles [period].

If you are into cross-country running- this is the game for you!

I played this too. SWG is better. Anarchy Online was cool at first but quickly became repetitive. Haven't tried it with the add-ons.

The MMORPG I've played is Planetside and the only reason I quiet was because I knew it was going to interfere with my school work.
