Star Wars Force Unleashed tech demo video

Too cool to see the physics and AI engines working together like this. This is what I was imagining 'next-gen' was supposed to be about instead of just the same old gameplay with rag doll physics added in.

Looks cool but it pretty much just looks like ragdoll physics combined with the destructible/interactive environment too. Havok is not new it's been around for a while. And that euphoria thing -- that sounds familiar -- isn't GTA4 using euphoria too?

I should add that Star wars games have been using the force for some time now -- I've played a few of them so this demo doesn't impress me that much.

Is this a serious comment? I find it hilarious.

I've played a few games with third-person fighting before, so I'm not impressed. Meh.

Well my point was that someone who has never played a star wars game would be more impressed with this tech demo because they are able to do things that they have never done before in a game. But I've played the Jedi Knight series (which was around in 2002 six years ago) and the force doesn't look that much different in this it's just done at a more massive scale.

Well, the force is going to be the force. You're going to have the same basic set of powers (force push, choke, etc). What is different and what makes this so cool in my eyes is the level of interaction between you, NPCs, and the environment.

In the Jedi Knight series you could push, pull, etc but it was to non-reacting NPCs and boxes. Now the NPCs react to your actions of grabbing or pushing them. Now the environment is interactive beyond a box or predetermined lever or switch.

Hell, Lego Star Wars: TCS has better effects than this "Force Unleashed" crap.

QFT. The wow factor is the level of interaction, not the force itself.

Legos is fun, but I don't think it is a good comparison 😛 Ep 3: Revenge of the Sith is the closest thing to this game play wise that I've seen, and compared to the footage in the trailers, it is no more advanced than Legos by comparison. Quote from the trailer- "As the title suggests, you are actually taking a look at the force re-imagined, which is the force unleashed." Translation, the force on steroids, and I for one, am eager for some serious destruction in a star wars title.

I couldn't agree less with that observation, but to each his own.

Yeah, the story is that Vader takes on a secret apprentice who he experiments on to 'unleash' the Force. The Force for the apprentice gets more and more crazily out of control through the game.

That just sounds like fun to me, so unless the really good stuff is all relegated to cut scenes, I will definitely pick this one up.

There is certainly a place for compelling and intellectually driven story lines, complex character interaction and development, well thought out strategy and tactics, challenging puzzles, realistic action, open ended stories, ect. But sometimes I just want a title my kid and I can have fun with, preferably together.

Which bring me to a question: Any word on if this will have real co-op, or will it be like the poor excuse EP:3 offered? I suspect the later, since the story lines looks to be about an individual. But I'm hoping it is like Halo and throws us a bone for good co-op in the story/campaign.

I wonder if I can "aftertouch" a thrown lightsaber? Sort like the thrown/shot objects in Heavenly Sword.

That would rule being able to guide a whirling lightsaber around a room and lobbing people in half.

I'm stoked for this game.

 That's what I like about the Lego: Star Wars (and hopefully the Lego: Batman and Indiana Jones) games. Fun pick-up-and-play games.

I thought that was cool as hell, when Luke did that in one of the Zahn novels I read back in the early 90's. He did it to those assassin creatures that were like ninjas, making it fly around the room and decapitate them. I played that cheesey Jericho demo, and you can control the bullets the one character shoots, so some games are adding that type of game play. Lets hope Lucas and his gang add that in.

You can do that in JK:JA 🙂
