From The Digital Bits:
We've been told to expect the studio to officially announce the DVD release of Star Wars: Episode I next week as well (for an October 16th street date). Is the wait finally over? We'll have to wait and see. But these same sources accurately predicted the Godfather announcement earlier this week, so cross your fingers...
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace
Disc One - the film in anamorphic widescreen video, Dolby Digital 5.1 EX sound, THX-certified, audio commentary by director George Lucas and various members of the production team, weblink to StarWars.com
Disc Two - the film's teaser and theatrical trailers, the Duel of the Fates music video, 9 TV spots, production still gallery, "making of" documentary, multiple production featurettes (on the special effects, costumes, set decoration and art direction, screenwriting and lightsaber duel choreography), multi-angle "animatic" footage (for introduction, pod race 2nd lap and underwater Gungan city scenes), 7 fully post-produced deleted scenes (pod race "starting grid" sequence, complete pod race "2nd lap" sequence, "waterfall" sequence, Coruscant "aero-taxi" sequence, "sunrise before the podrace", "Anakin and Greedo" and "farewell to Jira"
and more.
Both discs are also expected to feature elaborate, fully-animated menus. If these turn out to be the real thing, the set promises to be pretty cool. But what I'd really like to see is John Williams' score on an isolated, 5.1 audio track. Now THAT would be cool. We'll post the complete specs next week when they're officially announced.
This, plus The Simpsons!
