Return of the Jedi... Is it referring to Luke returning as the last remaining Jedi? or is it referring to Darth Vader leaving the Dark Side and becoming a Jedi again at the end?

I have always wondered about that...

I think it's referring to Luke in that all the Jedi were either dead or in hiding. In this sense, "Phantom Menace" could have been named "Return of the Sith" instead.

definately luke, but your thought of vader turning to good is interesting..I'm sure you know it was originally Revenge of the Jedi...but it was reasoned Jedis don't seek revenge.

Yeah, something like that. And the second one too, the title doesn't quite fit. "Attack of the Clones" seems to imply that the clones are the aggressors against the Jedi and the Republic; don't know what to call it though. A New Threat, The Sith Strike Back and Return of the Sith? :p

I thought the title referred to Jedi in general. The emporer has been overthrown and once again the jedi are a prominant force in the galaxy. I don't think Luke was the only Jedi at that point. Obi Wan and Yoda can't have been the only one to survive from the time of Episode 2 to Episode 4. I'm sure there would be some others living in remote parts of the galaxy, who could now join forces w/ Luke, if they wanted to.

There you go.

Has nothing to do with young Skywalker.

Actually, no. The sith were never gone, and the Jedi knew of their existance. They had just grown bloated and blind in their own power to see it.

True, it was originally The Revenge of the Jedi. But it was changed not because of Jedi ethos but because Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was originally the Revenge of Khan. Lucas did not want competing titles with similar release times. Neither did the Trek people. Both wound up changing the names.

There were other Jedi, in hiding, at this time. But of course we don't know about them because the films didn't talk about them. However, in the Expanded Universe (EU) there are close to a hundred books, comics, and video games that all contribute to the canon Galaxy Far Far Away (GFFA as the fans call it). So it all depends on wether or not you want to embrace the EU as part of your own personal Star Wars universe.

www.theforce.net is a nice website to get started. In their forums, they have a lot of threads where people debate things like this. Since none of my friends really read the EU, or care about Star Wars at all... a few say they're huge fans, but only watch the movies, heheh... I needed somewhere to talk without being the nerd who always brings up Star Wars at parties. :D

hmmm, don't buy that...kenobi said in Empire...that luke was their last hope and yoda said there was another...meaning leia...so if you go with just the movies...luke is the return of the jedi.
