I recently built this new XP Pro rig.
Installed all my other software with no problems along with a new game..... Might & Magic Dark Messiah.

This was bought retail/new and has been installed on another computer.
Installed Star Wars Empire at War and patched it with the 1.05 patch. It will not load for me. I even tried the exe file to run the game, it does nothing. No error or message, nothing.

When I put the cd in, it comes up with the menu ....... Start Game/Help, etc but when I click start game, it does nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have Admin rights from where you are trying to run it?

Did you select Private folders on the account?

Yes, full Admin rights. Private Folders? Don't think so. This is the only program so far giving me trouble without any errors or anything. When you hit start game, zero happens.

Like I said, the other game Dark Messiah works fine. It was installed the same way and is a newer game.

EDIT: Could it be a video driver issue? I'm using 97.02, the newest driver for the 8800 series of cards.
EDIT2: I just installed my 3rd game (Doom3) and it works fine.

It's not Dark Messiah I'm having trouble with. It's Star Wars Empire at War.
Dark Messiah loads, runs and is flawless for me.

Just downloaded the new drivers tonight but have the same problem. Empire at War will not start.
Yes, I have it installed on a Win2000 Pro rig and it works fine.

I knew yesterday was a bad day . . . seems it was worse than I thought

When you try to start it, does anything show up in your Task Manager Processes?

You might try one of the No-DVD patches.

I'm running XP Pro on all my Machines and pretty much everything works fine, so this puzzles me.

SP1 or SP2 ? I recall SP2 at one time had issues getting certain games/apps to run, but I think they've fixed all that as long as you've got everything patched and up to date.

Still could be 8800GTX Drivers, don't know why NVidias taking so long to get these patched up this time around.

It's XP Pro w/sp2 and fully patched minus Explorer 7 for now.

Nothing shows up in Task Manager after starting the game. Nothing changes in XP and there are no errors, no black screen, nothing.
Yea' this is only the 2nd driver since Nov 6th/8th? I know it was early Nov they came out with the 1st that supported the 8800 series.

I've heard of this no-dvd patch. Who's it made by? And is it supported?

Do a Google for it or GameCopyWorld.

It's definitely not supported, as these are made by users tired of having to have the CD/DVD out to play the game.

I've used them primarily because my kids have a tendancy to destroy the CD/DVD's - talk about Coasters (really) . . . .

Found this fix from MS. After I downloaded and installed the file, the game worked with no problems. Here's the file if anyone else has any trouble. There are other games that are affected, not just Star Wars Empire at War.
