So I just finished watching all the movies and now im a little interested in what happens next. Is there a core series of books that follow the events after the movies? Or some books that "must reads" that deal with the series.

I know there are a ton of book im just trying to narrow down the selection.

Thanks

What movies?

The Truce of Bakura occurs IMMEDIATELY after ROTJ. As for the series, do not miss out on The Thrawn Trilogy, as that is the best. Other good series include The Corellian Trilogy, the Han Solo Trilogy (but read this only after you've read other series' first), the X-Wing series (good for the starfighter, military side of Star Wars, not much Jedi action here), and the Jedi Academy Trilogy (kinda for young adults, though). Another good book is Shadows of the Empire which takes place between the E5 and E6 and does a good job linking those two movies. I would also check out the Tales of the Bounty Hunters, Tales from Mos Eisley Cantina, and Tales from Jabba's Palace. Those are collections of interlinking short stories that deal directly with the bit parts from the original three movies.

Oh, and also the ginormous New Jedi Order books after that.

Can someone clear something up for me. Quite a few years ago I read this book called the Han Solo Adventures, which detailed some of his exploits before the original movies. Recently I got my hands on another series about Han's previous adventures (it might have been the Han Solo Trilogy) but the stories were different. Now are there two different sets of stories about Han Solo's previous adventures? (They both rocked btw, I would love to see them made into movies.)

some of them are older ones written in the 80's. The Han Solo triology was written in the late 90's (i think). So, yes. There are.

X-wing series is kinda like "what if Tom Clancy did SW?" type thing.

One thing I really liked about the Han Solo Trilogy (written by AC Crispin) was that it bridged elements of future trilogies (for example, it explains stuff in The Corellian Trilogy) for the sake on continuity. We already knew that Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando in a Sabaac game from books written earlier. The Han Solo Trilogy actually details how exactly this occurs. IIRC, I believe that the Han Solo trilogy purposefully left part of Han Solo's timeline open so that the continuity from the Han Solo Adventures would not be ruined. This might occur between the second and third books of the trilogy. Because the trilogy spans Han Solo's life up until A New Hope, there are many years that are not included in the trilogy. I believe Crispin deliberately left out those years to accomodate the Han Solo Adventures, and might have even mentioned them in passing. I don't recall exactly, because I read them a long time ago.
