PM was a kids movie, AOTC is going to absolutely redeem Lucas in every way for the iniquities of Episode 1, IMHO. I'm so looking forward to it - already got my ticket!

I think opening weekend Phantom Menace will make more than episode II will, however, due to the good buzz going around for this movie, I see AOTC making much more money in the long run.

On the contrary, I hope AOTC beats the newly set opening weekend record. It's got a chance, just on name recognition alone.

Just from the previews it seems alot better than PM. An 80-90 million opening wouldn't surprise me.

Not gonna happen. PM made 65 million or so on 3000 screens.Even with the extra dollar or so that tickets cost now than in 99 it would take some work.

www.the-numbers.com has their numbers right, AOTC won't be opening on enough screens to compete with spider man. not the first weekend anyway, it will probably still beat spiderman in total gross but not first weekend.

No, AOTC will make less than Episode 1 because too many people were disapointed with the first one. It may make a decent chunk in the long run, but no tin the initial weekend or however it would be ranked.

However, as for quality, AOTC will kick Phantom Menace's ass.

Anyone read this week's Time? They had an article on AOTC. There was a quick blurp which was in interview with George Lucas. Mr. Lucas has been living in a fantasy life. He seemed to think that everyone liked his first movie, but of course Time was the first to tell him that not many people liked his first movie...
