Star Trek or Star Wars?

I'm going to go with Star Wars, only because the first (last?) three were great.

The last (first?) three just didn't have the same appeal.

Never seen Star Trek, but it sounds like it sucks more than Leia (before she finds out Luke is family).

Look for the collectors edition 4,5,6. I've got a set that has both the original uncut and the "remastered/fucked up" of each movie. I was so pissed when I saw that they replaced the original Anakin Skywalker 'ghost' for Hayden Christensen (sp) in the final scene of RotJ.

I voted for Star Wars, but both series are high on my list. The Star Wars EU is so expansive and immersive that it comes out on top for me, but I still force my fiancee to watch ST:TNG whenever I can


This should really be broken down into more categories... ST:TOS, ST:TNG, STS9, ST:V, ST:E, SW: Prequels, SW: Original. All of them are vastly different.

SW is campy as hell. ST actually tries to address moral issues.

I was about 22 (and I'm 25 now) before I saw a single episode or movie of any Star Trek. I've now gone through all of TOS and the first four seasons of TNG. Star Trek wins hands down from the quality of the stories and the fact that they could get an episode worth watching almost every week. It took Lucas 9 years to make a mediocre trilogy of episodes 1-3.

Star Wars.

But I do like Star Trek also.

I actually just rewatched Star Wars 1, 2, 3, and 4 over the weekend (still need to rewatch 5 and 6) and while I agree that the acting was horrible for the most part in the newer ones, the visual's blow 4, 5 and 6 out of the water.

I find Revenge of the Sith to be easily the best of the newer 3 movies and the scene where Obi-Wan cuts down Anakin while shouting "you were the chosen one!" was down right powerful IMO.

Really what makes the movies so bad is the terrible acting from Hayden Christensen & Natalie Portman coupled with cheesy lines and charters like Jar Jar and the child version of Anakin.

But I think that Ewan McGregor did a fantastic job in all 3 movies, Liam Neeson did a great job in the first one and bad guys like General Grievous, Count Dooku and Palpatine were all very well done.

Really it was the cheesy lines and Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman that ruin the movies. IMO if you were to take them out as factors they'd be pretty damn good movies.

That being said the original 3 (4, 5 & 6) or still of course the best.

Star Trek. Star Wars only did about 5 decent hours: all of 4, 5 and half of six. The rest was pure garbage. While Star Treks best didn't rise to the level of Star Wars best there was still more of it worth watching.

Star Trek. Star Wars, 4, 5, and 6 were entertaining popcorn flicks. The prequels were entirely trash, no redeeming factors at all. Even the special effects weren't special because they were so over used.

Trek as had some bad seasons, but even in the worst series, there are still gems. Seasons 3 and 4 of Enterprise were excellent, absolutely amazing . . . disregarding the series finale though. That episode will go down as the worst series finale of any series ever created.

Trek > Wars.

4,5,6 of Star Wars were excellent, but SW as a whole is stagnating, while Trek is constantly being reinvented. If this keeps up, SW will fade into obscurity while Trek could even reach icon status, lasting as long as Dr. Who in the UK. Either that, or someone will invent an actual time machine and go back to hit George Lucas in the head with a shovel prior to making the prequels.
