Star Trek Online

Anyone still play this? If so what server? I should be getting my collectors edition in the mail in a few hours.

I have been thinking about picking it up. Once you play it, let me know what you think and if its good ill pick run out and pick it up and play.

<------Ginormous Star Trek fan 🙂

I bought it for the pew pew pew, and it doesn't disappoint there. The ground combat is uninspiring, but whatever, I just want to fly around space killing aliens.

Going around in circles trying to kill ships get's old very quickly, but to each his own

I picked up the collectors edition at amazon for $10 bucks shipped with free prime 2 day. It even came with the pre order bonus of the borg officer. Not a bad deal and worth it to me. You should check it out for $10 bucks.

There are no servers. The entire game is instance for load and I believe the chat channels for a region even cross different instance versions.

A complete waste of time and money, even at $10.00. Everything is instanced. The whole universe consists of maybe 50 planets and there's *maybe* one mission to do on each planet and they need to be done pretty much in order. All the missions follow the same template: do 5 foos, where foo is killing or finding something. Loot stinks and the best stuff is available in shops, so there's no point in farming. You'll reach the experience cap without really trying and probably within two to three weeks of casual play. PvP is junk. And so on.

Worse, it doesn't even really feel like you're in space.

Op --> no work today?

Wow both regular and CE are $10, im almost tempted, but I don't trust Cryptic/Atari with making even a half decent game after what happened with Champions Online, even though I never played CO.

Not worth the monthly fee.

Anyhow, back to topic. So far its an alright game for $10. Only issue im having is sometimes i feel like i have to double click stuff multiple times when accepting missions or just in the menu's. Im also not sure what to put my points into as i have a background in science for my character.

My post was completely on topic. I played it from beta through launch, then again for about a month and change about 2 months ago. As I said, NOT worth the monthly fee.

There isn't enough content to keep you going for more than about a month, you'll hit level cap within said month, there is little variety. I'll give it points for following some historical Star Trek story lines (Love how they "explain" how the appearance of Klingons changed from TOS to TNG era).

But just like Champions Online, it has Cryptic shit all over it. Simply not enough content or immersion to make it worth while. If it was maybe $5 a month bundled with Champions Online, then you might have me considering it.

This was discussed to death in the STO thread, and nothing has changed since.

I had hoped it would be good. It held my interest for about a month. After capping a fed and a klink the PVP was so stale it didnt seem worth it. If they had made the quests harder and had more to do then the journey would have been worth it.

If the monthly was 5 bucks ish I would go back to pvp once a week or so...

I played the month after release and a month at Season 2 launch. I use the term 'month' loosely because it only held me for about 2-3 weeks each time.

The game is fun but gets repetitive when you reach about Captain/RALH level. Ship combat can be pretty awesome at times but it's just ridiculous at other times, especially on Elite. Ground combat is 'meh' with certain races being a cakewalk on Elite and others just being insta-kill.

Verdict: Really fun for a short time and will be worth the box price ($10) but eventually the bug, imbalances and lack of things to do just wear it all away.

I'm not kidding either (Speaking of ground battles only)

Avoiding any spoilers or hints/tips (using spoiler tags) I smashed through a whole map of a certain enemy (
Mirror Universe Federation
) on Elite easier and quicker than I could take down a group of another certain enemy (
The Borg
) on Normal difficulty.

The second enemy noted above could be beaten on Elite but usually it's a war of attrition involving dying several times. Another type of enemy (
Klingons
) were just insane on Elite and usually wiped out my squad within a matter of seconds (less than 10).

Space battles are better balanced but I could still struggle like crazy in my Cruiser which was a DPS/Tank hybrid built for PvE. Extremely high resists using several buff skills + Console Armour buffs and most medium class ships could nuke my shields with minimal effort.

Balance, content and variety is what is lacking in STO. It has done since release. I won't complain about and don't regret my time in STO because it was enjoyable. I quit because it did not have enough content to keep me.
