I played it in both beta and from day one on release, even had CE version,I also went back to it from F2P as well so speaking from my experience,as to opinions we all have those so no right or wrong in that.

Bottomline SWTOR could of been so much more IMHO and yes it was flawed .

What you played is irrelevant. Whether or not it could have been more or less is irrelevant. You have a skewed idea of what an MMORPG is. That's fine. It's your opinion. It's not against the law to be wrong. ;)

I have not played STO, but I did play SWTOR for a month. IMHO, SWTOR felt more like a multiplayer game and not a real MMO. Confined maps, small group sizes, no sandbox elements, no lots of things.

I could not recommend SWTOR to anybody looking for a MMO.

Did I touch a nerve?....I've played more MMORPGs over the last two decades then you have had hot dinners,as I stated it WAS my opinion, again I know what a MMORPG is ,I don't need you or anyone to teach a very old timer like me.

SWO- voiced quest are nice, but in the end are just the same old things.. in the end it felt like every other game to me.. not a bad thing, just nothing to make it stand out EXCEPT its Star Wars..

STO- I wont say its not repetitive.. it is..But the space combat does take some thinking.. and when you start SOLO'ing multi player content it can be a HUGE rush (and hard).. nothing new to any ST Commander player.. simplified combat from the old starship combat games. The Ground Mission.. at first where quite exciting to me as I spent time flanking and such.. but soon tired of all the micro managing and just blasted and it didn't seem to change the game.

STO for me too (but free, I cant see a reason not to dip back into SWO again to take a look at least).. but to be honest.. Free2Play (AoC) for standard MMORPG or (WoT) for some tactical combat...

STO gets my vote as well. I'll also add that the new Romulan content going live tomorrow is REALLY well done IMO. Much more interesting then the existing campaigns for the FED's and KDF.

FYI Star Trek Online lifetime membership is on sale for $199 instead of $299 for 3 weeks.

Dunno, I wouldn't waste my time with any of these too. I like both franchises, but SW tOR is too restrictive for an MMO and too generic for a singleplayer game (so it's stuck somewhere in the middle) and STO (don't know about this year's updates) gets repetitive pretty soon.

I still have the feeling that the MMORPGs nowadays just try to shamelessly copy WoW or try way too hard to be different and fail to be fun.

the KDF never had a campaign did it? its my understanding it was added with the new Rom patch. I was always disappointed in that.. max a fed ship in solo play, but you just id PvP in Klingon.

So can anybody confirm the Klingons have some solo content now?

I am playing through the romulan campaign but I am kind of annoyed with the warbird approach. The first ship you get is an escort, then its a science ship and then a cruiser. While I dont mind the science ship I hate beam boats, the battles are just so slow and boring. The constant change is a big problem when by that point you have cannons and shields designed for short encounters along with being specced for doing damage and officers with skills trained around this setup.

When I played the fed campaign years ago I didn't have that issue, I could choose escort/science/cruiser all the way up from level 10 onwards.

There was this mission from level 23 to 29 that was just continuous, took an entire afternoon to go through and now I am really struggling because of the beam boat change.

yea kdf have had solo content for a while now.

hmm I must have missed it, liked the game enough to get a year sub and played it but quit about 6-7 months after launch, then went back on the f2p, Fired up my level 10 Klingon and had no missions and could find none but the PvP stuff.. I will take another look soon!

You are forced to use beams until level 10. Then you can use escorts until level 40 when you are forced to fly the D'deridex, a beam boat. You can fly escorts again at 50 (or, 47 or whatever).

Maybe he doesn't understand which ships are meant for canons and which are meant for beams. You can fly a romulan escort level 11-39 if you want to. There is only one romulan ship available at 40 and that's the big tanky cruiser.

Yep correct the D'deridex is the beam boat. Starts at level 30 however not 40. But the one from 20-30 is a bit too slow to be an escort but I still managed to use cannons reasonably effectively but that D'deridex just can't use them, it turns way to slowly. Its too slow for the weapons it comes with, they give you a couple of beams but the dual beams and cannons are also on it and that is ridiculous on this ship. It ought to have 4-5 beams.

I was equally surprised to see the price of beams for commander level, 20k energy on the exchange. I can't even afford to buy 3 beams at that price to put weapons on it that I can use. Just kind of stuck really, got the wrong officers, wrong weapons and consoles and no where near enough credits to fix it.

F2P SWTOR is really gimped compared to sub now so if you thinking about just doing the F2P I would stay away from SWTOR.

All in all SWTOR was a huge disappointment. I was in the closed beta for a year and it was a great game then with lots of promise but Bioware could not deliver on the feedback they were getting from testers.

You can buy cheap beams from NPC vendors.

Some ideas:

Officers: buy blues cheap on the exchange? If you're having fun it should be OK to spend a little Zen for extra slots.

Beams: exchange, crafting, vendors, or join a fleet? Run some content with loot drops? Replay a mission? Replay a mission with a Fed alt?
