Star Trek Online F2P Early Access

Star Trek Online F2P Early Access is now live for past subscribers. If you ever bought and played the game (not a trial) you can come back to play your old characters and ships now for free.

The general F2P launch for new players is January 17th.

EDIT: Some people are reporting that previous beta accounts are also working for early access. If you've never played before, it sounds like signing up for an Alienware promotional trial account will also get you into early access play.

Thanks for the heads up. Still have it installed and despite all it's faults I do periodically enjoy a run through. Just wasn't worth a monthly to me but I've seen worse for free 😉

I received my e-mail for the 'early F2P access' yesterday as well.

As a huge ST fan it is very tempting to go back and start playing again, but there's so many games I've yet to play (i.e. games from Steam sale - latest one *and* the ones I bought last year, plus some other F2P MMOs that I'd like to try) and there's not enough game time!

In true cryptic form (based on Champions Online going F2P), I eagerly await to see how badly cryptic fucked up the playability of my current characters.

I'll agree, it definitely could have been a lot better. But to say it's aweful isn't doing it justice.

What is this like? Is it like starfleet command 3? Can i bash noobs or is it one of those touchy feely MMOs that caters to the noobs? Can i be the borg and assimilate another player into my collective?

{Opinion}

I was going to make a video of it and comment on it but it was just so unbearably bad... Ugh it felt worse than the MMO's that came out in 1999 (Ever Quest/Asheron's Call).

Phaser combat, while cool in the movies is atrocious in actual gameplay.

Ok, sounds like I will like it then. I played both EQ and AC within the last year, and I'd say are both light years better than than any post 2004 game. I will have to install it tonight.

Oh... well ill find out the hard way i guess if its terribad or not.

I made an account earlier, fired up the game just now and was greeted with this:

FAGGOTNOOB? lol!!! I did not pick that for a screen name i swear to god my screen name was "cuntpunt779" when i made it earlier, someone already took "cuntpunt" unfortunately. Maybe this is the games way of telling me i suck or someones already stolen my account before ive even started 😛

Registration was a mess. Didnt work.
Now I know why no one is playing it.

The game had potential but it's almost like two separate games glued together by a lobby. The space combat is fun to a point but it does get repetitive (however still more exciting than EVE combat). The ground combat is more tedious than say SWTOR but more fun than WOW if that makes sense. The game is good looking and ran decently on my low end laptop + desktop at the time.

Personally I see no reason why not to have a free account to play around. And I did find some of the people I encountered very friendly and willing to group up. Just don't expect much and you should be ok.
