Watched it last night.

More/less it's a Start Trek made for non-trekeis. Seems much of it was done off-ship. There were some pretty dumb scenes that were used to explain the technology. Into the darkness seemed much better. At lest it delved into the Prime Directive etc...

Cast for ST reboot is good. Scripts, not so much.

We'll have people parachute down.... how about you parachute a photon torpedo?

I disagree. To me it was like a pretty good 2-part "event" TV episode of TNG, Voyager or DS9. Not the best Trek ever, but by far not the worst.

And Keith Urban totally nails the McCoy character. I've been watching The Animated Series on Netflix and Urban could fill in for DeForest Kelley without anyone noticing the difference.

I thought Beyond was not bad, and IMO was better than Into The Darkness.

Beyond was better than Into Darkness, but that's not saying much, given that Into Darkness was a corny, incoherent train wreck.

I don't understand why Into The Darkness was rated so well. But then again, I don't understand why The Force Awakens was rated so well too.

Wayyy too much action, not enough character development in any of the Star Trek movies. The reboot isn't working because we've had decades to establish the relationship between the characters in the original series. In the new movies, the characters are named the same, but totally different, so the character relationships are difficult to form a bond with. The result is a bunch of "who cares" scenes that were intended to be emotional.

This.

All of the new ST movies are bad, but Into Darkness was the worst by a mile. Complete and utter garbage.

I understand why TFA was rated so well - nostalgia - but STID remains a mystery. Even though it's a hack job of Star Trek 2, it doesn't really tick the nostalgia box. Cumberbatch + big explosions, I guess?

Was this the most recent one? I thought it was entertaining. However the sets in that movie looked so low budget. When they crashed onto the planet, all of the sets looked like they were made of cheap plastic. It looked like it was being filmed on a stage in a highschool. It completely took me out of the movie.

Beyond was interesting because it was the first movie to grab the Enterprise storylines and dive in. MACOs, Xindi, etc. Which also may be why some people are hating on it, but I say polarize the hull plating and bring on the beagles.

And yes, Karl Urban is the reincarnation of DeForest Kelley, he absolutely nails the McCoy character the way DeForest did, while most of the others are "reinterpreting" their characters. Especially Zoe Saldana, give me a break!

My thoughts exactly. Pine and Quinto seem to be doing bad impressions of their characters.

I honestly don't care for most anything JJ is involved in.

That said I haven't seen Beyond, but was forced to watch the other 2. Ugh.

I totally enjoyed as a netflix rental. Had I paid theater money I may have not been so forgiving. Much better than into darkness IMO. 2 things that was stupid and should have either never been filmed and/or snipped. SPOILERS:
Sulus obviously gay relationship was totally not necessary. Just because the original sulu actor is gay doesn't mean it should be depicted in the movie. I am far from a homophobe as my son is gay and I have no problems with it at all, just the way they did it was duh. And, the whole spock is dead so lets tell young spock that he died. WTF?!?!?

Saw it last night. It was a fun popcorn movie, definitely more generic sci-fi than trekkie, but using the Beastie Boys to fight off the bad guys while surfing the tidal wave had me rolling my eyes lol. It's like they were doing a parody of themselves..."ready to rock on, sir" c'mon :D

The graphics were absolutely fantastic. That timelapse of the new ship being built at the end was incredible. And rofl at the giant green hand in the credits, touche.

You mean Karl Urban. But i totally agree. He plays a very good Dr Mccoy after DeForest Kelley.
I find him the most enjoyable character of the new series.
And Chekov. and the new Uhura.
