I installed the mod about a month ago and spent a lot of time playing since. The mod works with SOSE: Rebellion only. Installation is pretty straight forward, navigate to the Ironclad games folder, drop the it in the mod folder within that one and you are done.
It's not a finished project yet, it's very actively worked on but it's more than playable at the moment. Right now here are 4 factions to choose from (Federation, Klingon, Romulan and Borg) but the devs are working on the Cardassian and a Bajoran faction as well and adding stuff to the existing ones too.
As a long time RTS Star Trek fan, I jumped this as soon as I heard about it and it's working great. Beware of multiplayer atm, factions have not been balanced yet but playing against AI, especially the lengthy games has been epic. The mod would be even better if it weren't for some inherent SOSE flaws, game feels slow in the finishing stages.
Epic battles! I played against multiple opponents on the "vicious" setting on huge maps, it took me 30 hours to finish the last one I played, including one 6 hour straight session where time flew by. The factions balance is true to Star Trek canon. I played on bigger custom maps( they all have a STA prefix) and I even waged a huge battle at Wolf 359. A single Borg cube can and will wipe you out unless you allocate a serious portion of your fleet (that you hopefully already built when you encounter them) to defend and even if you get to pop one (which was extremely satisfying) it will set you back and you will lick your wounds and recovery takes a while. Tactical cubes are a notch harder than assimilation cubes and yet there are even more powerful Borg vessels in the mod. Staying true to canon in regards of factions balance makes it hard to balance the multiplayer. Borg units are extremely powerful so they are very expensive and that makes anyone playing as Borg vulnerable to early invasions.
The visuals and audio are good but as expected from a community mod, there is some repetitious subpar voice acting when moving a large fleet of ships from one planet to another. Definitely recommend the mod, I only encountered 1 bug but it's potentially game breaking, it was a corrupted save so create several saves if you play longer missions.
