Star Ocean: The Last Hope

Any one played Star Ocean: The Last Hope on their xbox360? I'm planning on picking the game up for my PS3 tomorrow. it suppose to come out tomorrow. I was just wondering how the game is and what you guys thought of it. I have Star Ocean III: Til the end of time for my ps2. I really enjoyed that one.

I played it to the last section/planet and overall I'd say the game is mediocre at best. The story is your typical "Young inexperienced emo dude must save the universe even though he doesn't think he can" JRPG. This is fine and all but I found it really tiring after a while.

The voice acting is absolutely horrible in English though I believe the PS3 version will have multiple languages to choose from. Combat in the game is decent though towards the end I could feel the need to grind just to progress. No thanks.

Really, the game is generic as JRPGs get which is fine if you like JRPGs. I very recently stopped liking them though because they all start to feel very similar after a while. Star Ocean is no exception unfortunately.

I got halfway through before I switched to a different game. The main character's a whiny bitch too much of the time and I just couldn't stand it.

Another major neg is that in order to gain skill points, you have to play for long sessions. You won't gain much in sessions less than an hour, so casual play is out.

I finished the game and pretty much agree with what has already been said. Just wanted to reiterate that the voice acting is AWFUL in English.

I played it for a few hours. Definatley not the best of the series. I will point out though that the international version being released for the PS3 does have the original japanese audio with english subtitles.

It absolutely, positively drove me fucking insane to the degree where I could no longer listen to the voice acting and had to specifically turn off one character's combat voice in the comfig; too bad I couldn't fucking turn it off for cut scenes as well and I had to goddamn mute it every time one started.

Hah yeah that 'kay girl was damned annoying but I thought Sarah(?) the girl with the glasses was hands down the worst. Nothing like hearing "Faerie healing!" in her extremely annoying high pitched voice over and over and over... *feels the rage building*

It's not a game I would pickup for $60. Maybe $20-40, but definitely not $60.

This is my reaction, but not to the game--to that guy on the 4 Guys 1 Up podcast. There is a guy on there who sounds like he has a mouth full of cotton and listening to him speak is the worst!

I didn't have any problem with Reimi, Bachus, or Myuria's voice actors. But Sarah and Lymle drove me insane. For that matter, Edge (I think was his name?) wasn't that bad. I don't really see the whiny bit about him either, but perhaps its just been awhile since I played it, and forgetting something here? The cat girl was ok, but not really good.

I'd say if you liked tteot, you'd probably like lh. The grind isn't really any worse. Actually, it's better if you played some of that damn tower after you beat the game in tteot.

I would recommend at least trying the japanse voices though, especially once Lymlee gets introduced. They couldn't possibly be worse than the english version of those 2 mentioned above.

Oh, I did think the plot from tteot was better, even with the controversial "plot twist" introduced.

Yeah, english voice is horrible but the battle system is smooth as butter. This is the reason why I am up in arm when ps3 version of ffxiii will only have english voice and consider skip it and purchase the chinese version where it will have japanese audio and chinese subtitle.

What? Last I heard, PS3 version for NA will have extra audio/subtitle options. It was the XBox version that won't because of space limitations.

check out Infinite Undiscovery. Really good game.

Plus you get free DLC in the form of "A and B Vouchers" which let you buy rare materials for crafting right from the getgo. Once I got to the first dungeon I could craft some monster weapons and I was rich; made the game funner for me.

The battle system is kind of fun but easy. Crafting is somewhat interesting. Every other part of the game is trash. I just couldn't plow through the lame story and characters. Maybe someday.
