Star Conflict - F2P MMO with $149.97 in DLC

Just noticed Star Conflict up on Steam. From the makers of War Thunder. And the game looks very similar to that except with spaceships (well ya, duh!). Only thing that kinda irks me is the DLC is $149.97. You gotta be kidding me. F2P + 150. haha!

Anyone playing this? Feedback, thoughts?

The forum threads on this game are just hilarious too.

Meh. The three downloads are "enhancements" of varying degree. IT would be pointless to buy them all. Still, $80 (the cost of the top package) to add a few enhancements is ridiculous.

Free to pay. My new term for the genre.

Actually, it can make sense to buy for people who are going to play it a lot. Spend 1000 hours playing, and that 10% bonus is getting you things in 100 hours less time. 100 hoiurs for those prices can well be worth it. Remember in world of tanks it's $15 a month for 'premium' which is just a bonus to the rate you get advancements, same idea.

For more casual players, probably not worth $50.

Just ran through the tutorial. Not a bad game but I can't see myself spending cash on it. There is nothing exciting about this game. War Thunder is a bit more fun without spending a dime. I give them credit for at least trying to build a space game.

Played it for 2 months and supported it's application via Steam Greenlight. It's very much fun. Faster paced than War Thunder with some pretty interesting tactics and fun game modes.

It is NOT pay to win. It's simply pay to progress faster. Any demeaning of the game for it's DLC (simply bonuses which ALL MMO's tend to offer) is just ignorance.

Might not be worth the cash at this moment in time but certainly worth trying.

PS: How do I add the game to my Steam library and download it via Steam? Play Game kicks me to the Community page and Store page kicks me back to the Store page. Vicious Cycle.

Game wasn't slammed for the DLC. Thread was started to get feedback on the game and its value. And its good to know its not pay to win. I will keep the game installed and jump on from time to time. And I will gladly buy a few DLCs in the future to support the Devs if I enjoy my time in game.

Regarding install: They were having problems with the install feature earlier. I was able to install finally after a few attempts. Maybe they ran out of keys and rather than let people install they are waiting for them. I know in the past lack of keys as been a complaint against Steam so they might be trying to avoid that. Pure speculation on my part. Try back in a bit is my suggestion.

Dude just Steamed it tonight, have not touched WoW or PlanetSide2 because im having fun, i cant wait till the support a joystick. Play it

I just started playing this a few days ago. I'm loving the fast pace action and the game is by no means pay2win. I'm sad to see it doesn't have as large of a following as the other flight simulators. It peaks at about 2k and drops off to 1k at night.

I love that it's free to play, that means I get to demo the game and see if I actually like it before putting down money to support the devs.

Downloading now.

Well, it also means that like all free to pay games, if you do like the basic game you get a game where the enjoyability is reduced by design to pressure you to pay for things.

I should probably try this since I love war thunder. Did they do anything fun for april fools day? In war thunder there is the pony nation 😀

As opposed to before where if you didn't pay you got no game at all. I'm failing to see how this is worse than before.

So I can get a mediocre game for free or a good game for money? How much is your time worth? I'd rather spend money for a better product I'll enjoy more.

If you're more than a very casual player f2p tends to be more expensive.

I don't think so. Unless you pay for a lot of the fluff type stuff (visual/cosmetic upgrades and the like) in these games it's not all that different than before. The difference is that the payment comes up after you've been admitted, which is better than the old system where you pay before play.

Keep telling yourself that. Experience says otherwise. Not to mention the game has to be designed around making it grindy to extract money from its players rather than just making it fun.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 was extremely grindy, and it was a traditional up front cost type of game.
