Where is this game at? I think a few posts ago someone said but I am lazy.

You can....race with ships you purchase? Do you have to purchase ships to play? Or just pay for the game and get default ships? What good is this 325 dollar ship going to do!?

I mean if I can get in the game and start earning money that will carry over into the release then I may buy it this weekend...if it is literally just "race to test out the game" I'll probably wait a few more months.

Why are the ships so pricey? Can they only be purchased with $$ or can you earn then in game? Seems kind of PtW if the fomer. Is there a release date yet?

Release date is expected in late 2016 ... possibly sometime 2017. There is a 'single player' version called 'Squadron 42' ... you have the option of transferring that character to the larger Persistent Universe (PU)... or skip that entirely and join right into the PU from scratch by just buying the initial retail download and earn your ship (s) in game with the Star Citizen currency.

There are a number of fan based videos that explain it like these:

Allright thanks. So you can currently earn credits that will transfer to the release version? Am I understanding that right?

You can race, dogfight, and coop Vanduul Swarm so far (with limited ships). FPS module beta should be released first quarter of this year. Squadron 42 (single player/coop campaign) should be out towards the end of this year, along with the beta of the PU (end of year'ish).

The pricier ships tend to be ships that are expected to be crewed by multiple people. Like that mining ship for instance. Expect to need a pilot, a laser operator, drone operators and scanning tech. The single seater starter ships are around $35 and that includes the game.

And yes, as has been stated pretty much on every page nothing is for sale (I won't use the word pledge) that isn't going to be available via in game credits.

*edit.. as of right now, any credits you earn will NOT carry over (unless they are included in your game package or you purchase UEC.

With multi-crew ships, you can hire artificial intelligent NPCs to fill gaps in those positions... but little is known how effective they will be compared to 'real people'.

The prices were based on funding the development of the game initially. Now they are simply based on the prices of previous ships of that size/class to keep from pissing off early backers.

I probably spent several grand on digital goods over the years but 325 for one item on a game that's ~2 years out... oof. Dunno man.

Well even with the $30 Starter ship.... shouldnt take you more than a couple of months to earn the ship in game playing 3 to 4 times a week and the risk level of the missions you want to accept.

The 890 Jump is the crown jewel in Origin's spacecraft line. A fully-equipped interstellar yacht, the 890 Jump isn't just a beautiful silhouette: it's ready for dozens of potential roles, from high-security trading to organization leadership to command and control.

The Origin 890 Jump is a rare sight, but a lasting one. Its very presence signifies power: used as a personnel transport, the 890 Jump is the prized possession of CEOs, politicians, holo stars and the like. Whether they’re traveling from Earth to Terra or exploring uncharted stars, the 890 leads the way in everything it does.

Need more guns? Heavier shields? More powerful thrusters? The 890 Jump is also fully customizeable, to the same degree as any ship in Origin’s lineup! The company has built their most complex starship to date… now it’s up to her captain to choose what happens next!

It's a luxury exploration ship. Technically you can fly any ship solo so long as you have the credits to hire NPCs to fill the critical slots. I have my GF playing as my Communications Officer... my best friend playing the Engineering role "Dammit Scotty... I need Warp 10 in 5 minutes or we are all dead!".... I have another friend playing the Medical role and my 6 year old son will be trained to man the turrets that are not filled with NPCs.

Oh yea... the 890 Jump comes with a 2 Seater 85x you can fly to planetside or want to explore smaller areas in between asteroids or something like that...

I'm excited for this game but I think I'm going hold off on cash purchases for now. These should be still available for cash after launch right?

Everything for sale now will be obtainable after launch (not certain if they can be purchased after launch though)

I haven't kept up with recent packages but my initial pledge of $40 got me the game on launch and an Aurora with LTI. So pledging got me the game at most likely a lower price than retail abd a starter ship with LTI

So what happens when your beneficiary finally is destroyed? Does he have his own beneficiary to continue the gamer for you? Are you able to start over from scratch?

I haven't seen much discussion of it lately but the original plan was to stop selling ships for cash near the end of beta.

Also some ships are only up for sale for short periods of time and/or in limited numbers.

Assuming you're talking about character death I believe it just keeps going down the line from one beneficiary to the next. If you want to start from scratch you will need another character slot. The extra slots are not currently for sale but they said additional ship packages could be used as character slots.

You can fly many of the ships solo but you will not be very efficient at performing all the jobs. Even a basic npc crew will help on the larger vessels.

I thought I've read that some ships will still be for sale after launch, but more expensive, and without LTI.

It's been pushed back AGAIN?!

bwuahahahahaha :awe:
Really not much of an issue. That is my best guess. It may come out sooner. The scale of Star Citizen is massive to put it mildly. Backers are having a blast test playing Arena Commander.... racing... and the new planet side modules. The first few chapters of 'Squadron 42' (single player) should be out later this year.

I cant wait to play test my F7C-M Super Hornet with my 7 year old son blasting Vanduul in the turret behind me. Eventually train him to handle shield / power management so I can focus on piloting and firing my main guns on the targets in front of me.

The attention to detail can be overwhelming. As a Backer with over $2,500 pledged.... I see no reason to rush. The beauty of not having a Publisher breathing down your neck and we get to balance out major chunks of the game before it's ready for 'Retail'.

Chris Roberts is a perfectionist. .. his best and worst attribute in my opinion.

None of Chris Roberts' previous ventures lend him the honor of the title Perfectionist. Do yourself a favor and look up his previous business ventures. In fact, most of his work boasts needless delays if it even came out at all and many of them (one could argue most) were massive let-downs. So massive? Pfffff. Okay!

**Keep in mind all this is subject to change**

All ships/variants will be in the game after release. Some will be purchasable with credits, others you will have to discover/steal/gain rep for. Ship prices will go up and ships will not come with LTI.

You will no longer be able to purchase ships with real money. You will be able to buy credits for real money but there will be a weekly cap and an over all cap on the amount of purchased credits you can have on your account. We don't know at this point what the total cap will be or if it will be high enough to buy ships outright.

Once the game is released you will no longer receive a ship with a game package. You will start with no ship and will be given a loaner ship in game while you do missions to earn a more permanent vessel.

For those curious about the game:

I advise anyone who thinks they may want to play this now or at some point in the future to buy one of the cheaper starter packs:

AURORA MR AC STARTER or MUSTANG ALPHA AC STARTER

Both of these packages are $45. You get a basic ship with some insurance, the full open world game, the full single player mission game, beta access, starting credits, and you can hop right into Arena Commander if you want to play right now.

If you like what you see right now these will give you the option of upgrading to some of the other ships or you can outright buy another ship. If you don't like what you see at the moment you can sit on it and try it out further in development. If you still don't like it you've lost $45, cheaper than most of the big name DLC crapshoots that have come out lately.

Sure these multi-hundered dollar ships look awesome but you aren't gonna be left in the dust if you don't have one out of the gate. If you feel you really want one, team up with friends and group buy one in the game.

Nope, it's been planned for a while to be out sometime in 2016. TBH since it's taking a bunch of patches to get Elite Dangerous to the level of feature completeness that was originally sold I really don't mind. ED has spent approximately 3 years in development at this point, Star Citizen has spent 2 years and change in development. I would say that at this point Star Citizen is making good progress and I like the direction that they're heading. In the meantime I'll enjoy popping on ED to play for a bit and play some SC Arena Commander as well. Just upgraded my 300i to a 325A (really like how the 300 series handles, just need more firepower for dogfights) and I'm considering adding a Cutlass Black or Constellation Taurus to my ship inventory.

Chris Roberts isn't making this game. It's being made by a group of highly skilled folks who are obviously quite good at what they do, and the engine is made by an entirely different company that has been pushing rendering tech for a good while.

The success of this game doesn't sit on that man's shoulders. His job is securing funding and providing creative direction, and I think he's done a very good job of both so far.

I think it's progressing just fine. Just as fast as ED, which still has a very, VERY long way to go before it reaches the developer's scope of vision.
