Most games don't promise a bunch of features before they know if it will work in the engine.

As a guy whose spent a bunch of time in wireless I heard similar stuff about the first iPhone.
Apple has no mobility experience
Apple doesn't have vendor reps
The touch screen will suck
People aren't interested in the mobile web
Non mobile sites won't work
Too many features in the phone normal people won't be able to figure it out
Too expensive nobody will spend $450 or more for a phone
Mobile email is only secure on Blackberry

I've also heard very grandiose claims from HTC on how they plan to rule the world.

You've never read about E3 game demos followed by the backpedaling at launch?

Since you think this is unique, I shall endeavor to edumacate you:

(That just covers visuals, but if you haven't been living in a cave you've read many many stories of pre-release studio hype that didn't make it into the released game. Case in point: Peter Molyneux)

Of course Peter. That was another horrible kickstarter in a long list of them. The issue with this game is they have literally sold people "ships" that are based on game play that will never happen.

Your link is horrible. Those are downgraded graphics not promised and sold features that were always impossible not being in the game.

Honestly the word "promise" is incorrectly (and too frequently) used when it comes to CIG. At least in my opinion. I've been following this project for three years and I can't recall CIG promising anything even once. They're very up front about the fact they're trying to do things. Including things that have never been done before. But they do not promise they will do them.

No problem and I promise I won't whine about it if the game sucks because I knew there was a risk from day one. Honestly about 85% of the games I buy or try out I play less tan 1 hour.

between messing around in the PU and what I've put into Arena Commander, I'm easily over 100 hours. Even if I never touch it again, I already got my money's worth.

Same. Hell the education I've received from following this quasi-open development project (both the good things and the bad things) has been worth the $70 I've spent. When I get to see John Rhys Davies and Gary Oldman in a video game....that will just be icing on the cake.

So JSt0rm.....what do I "deserve"?

Yea. It's been interesting.

I should say, I wasn't an early pledge. I never had the free cash to take the risk, so I sat back and waited for things to get better. I jumped in shortly after Alpha 2.0 was published, and at that point I decided I could spare the $45 to get on board. Considering what I spent on controllers, my 'sentrybot619' control setup, and 2 accounts that each have an Avenger, I'm in for about $500 now.

Honestly, completely disregarding the PU, if they just polished up Arena Commander and added a bunch of more maps, I'd be beyond happy. AC alone is a blast. Ever since I got dual sticks and really started getting into it and being competitive, the action I've seen in AC has been some of the, if not the, best video gaming I've ever played.

Plus, I guess I'm fortunate in that I've had a lot of experience messing with Cryengine, and I'm a coder, so much of the 'backend' issues that have slowed the project down are interesting to me, and the issues they raise 'make sense' to me as well, so I don't take issue with the time involved.

Gary Oldman dropped out. ;) Just wait for that shoe to drop.

Anyways you deserve what you end up getting with this thing. The star citizen community is a toxic mess. But in that toxic mess you have people who spent all of their joint marriage savings on space ship jpegs. People who got divorced over this thing.

Basically cig took advantage of people who arent right in the head. And exploited there dreams about whatever game they saw was coming. Nobody involved in this mess understands a thing about game development. But that like to use that as a insult for people who criticize this thing.

So in the end when you shrug off your $70. OR tekboy shrugs off his $1000 (lmao) remember real lives were ruined because of this thing. Remember how toxic the community was trying to control the message. Using the report function to get mods of all these forums to ban people who said "hey wait a minute. Maybe we shouldn't be giving this guy 150 million. Have you seen his track record?". Having a dissenting opinion about a video game shouldn't bring on death threats and people being banned from forums. Reddit downvotes on any not positive message - you may as well be the north korea of game development.

The reason they did this is because they wanted more people to join them in their folly. So they are complicit in how this thing went.

AC is 32 bit. The flight model is also broken as its better to just use a mouse. They got a lot of money but they have burned it amazingly. foundry42 spent 32 million last year. And they have what 4 other studios?

As I said before, people will be studying this thing for a long long time.

oh and all of the negative report and ban people who are negative to the project stuff that the community has done has come back to bite them. A lot of comments on the recent news articles make everyone involved sound like they are Scientologists. A passive observer is not going to think this is normal.

Any marriage that ended over SC wasn't going to survive without SC being involved you're smart enough to know that J.
Forums removing posts that contribute nothing isn't a scandal. Make a bunch of post how anandtech sucks any you should look at let's say tomshardware. Test out how that goes over on these forums. Forums are owned speech is not free on them.
Anyone who is buying SC now knows the risks.
I keep getting the feeling the majority of SC haters simply want to be right and want to see sorrow to justify being right. I'll say it again I'm all for hearing some negatives but the constant rooting for failure is not productive.

Nobody is here constantly rooting for failure. 40 gaming sites ran a story about a guy getting a 3k refund by using the AG. Then stuff comes up. The problem with the constant always good posting is that more people may be inclined to drop thousands of dollars on this abortion.

And I dont know if you have looked at the funding lately but normal people are not buying in. The whales will chase their loses but that will happen until the end.

Why are you so emotionally invested in this thing? Why are you so concerned what complete strangers are doing with their lives and money?

The only person who seems to be exhibiting any kind of cultist obsession in this thread is you. You follow this game and discussions of it religiously. You even research the personal lives of the CIG staff - wth?

It's a VIDEO GAME. Entertainment.

If you want to take on some kind of righteous cause - why don't you pursue something with your time that actually matters?

That's a lie. Funding is still coming in, and plenty of people, even people I know, are just now signing up.

Seriously, read what you wrote that I quoted, and ask yourself 'did I really believe what I posted?' cause if you did, you're kinda delusional.

Hey you guys keep addressing me. I dont come in here with every negative update from dsmart. I pop in on occasion and it always ends with you guys reporting me to the mod after you get done trying to insult me for being critical of your masterpiece.

Believe me, I could fill this thread with 100 pages of lol content. But I dont.

Oh are we allowed to post jpegs in this thread now? Or is it only me who isnt allowed? Lets test the waters...

The ONLY PICTURES i am gonna allow in this thread are those related to the Game and Design. Not these Parody unless it pertains to the ship or a design flaw on the ship and not the ETHICS of the Game Developers.

Are there any successful crowd funded games? I am skeptical of them all. A successful business man once told me (regarding people who ask for money) "There is a reason they don't have the money"

FTL admittedly its a simple game but it was crowd funded. Never played it but Mine Craft started off as make a donation to get the unfinished game.

SC may not be the game expected or it may exceed expectations but you're right if it concerns you wait until its released.

Grim Dawn was a success. Pillars of Eternity was a success. Harebrained schemes have successfully funded a few games. There are a lot of dogs though.
