Yeah something is definitely up with AC for me. 2nd time I tried it since updating, I have a Vanguard selected as my ship, but when it loads I'm in a Connie, easily melting Vanduul with my 4 M6A lasers. However, when I finished wave 18 and it shows your ship exterior, I see a Super Hornet. Weird. This was in online co-op.

YES. I am looking more forward to the Carrack than any other ship in life.

On a sad note though, one of the devs recently stated that the Redeemer isn't being worked on and will be much further down the line. *sad* The Redeemer IMO is the coolest mid-sized ship in the entire lineup, which is really pretty sparse with mid-sized ships.

I may or may not pick up one... D:

The level of detail on these new ships is just incredible. Look at the detailed mechanisms on the tanks. The fidelity of this game is just crazy.

Pretty amazing what you can do when you are not coding to run the game on 3 year old consoles using 7 year old technology....

Are you on the live server?

Have you deleted your USER folder lately? Make sure you backup your keybindings before you do. You can export it in the game's keybinding menu, then save the CONTROLS folder. Make a backup of this.. and do it everything you change your keybindings. Then delete everything in your USER folder except for the CONTROLS folder.

The fact that it does not have wings was one of the first things that came into my mind when I saw this image of the Starfarer spaceship.

Regarding looks: it looks like a turtle.

I like the design direction they've gone to with the MISC ships. They look and feel like industrial / commercial vehicles. Even though I don't like the cockpit view of the Freelancer, I love the dash and look of the displays and controls. Reminds me of a big 18-wheeler or something.

Agreed. The fact MISC look industrial but also include Xian tech is what I find so appealing. Come on CIG, give me my damn Reliant!

Just read the RtV highlights. Looks like insurance really is a non-existent mechanic. Even 3 months might as well be LTI as it is really going to be in game hours:

Lots of other interesting bits in the summary at INN:

http://imperialnews.network/2016/01/reverse-the-verse-episode-78-liveblog/

Things that stood out to me:

  • Hull series isn't be worked on yet
  • Xi'an scout is on sale again to celebrate X-Files
  • Saitek peripherals go on sale soon, first 2000 of the low end stick will be sold on RSI and will be autographed by CR
  • Cutlass rework progress to be shown soon
  • Carrack and BBM the priority after SQ42 ships
  • Caterpillar is progressing nicely
  • Instance queing is in the plans for the future

Thanks for posting Sabre. I need to remember that INN really has come a long way and they do a great job of summarizing the volumes of data that come out.

Regarding the 2.1.1 patch....I am surprised by it's release. They had said they were going to monthly live releases and that progress/updates would be made in the PTU during the month. I like that approach.

I feel (a little)bad for all the low-bandwidth people having to re-download this patch for really only little performance and stability tweaks.

looks like the core 2 quad issue has been patched in 2.1.1 I won't have much time this week but hopefully I can get in tonight or tomorrow for a bit I want to walk around the place.

The monthly patches are intended to be big content updates (more ships, maybe more places to go, etc). There will still be hotfix patches to correct issues during the rest of the month. Though, as I said their record in this patch is a bit spotty. Some of the things they report as fixed aren't really. The big one to me is that my Tali still spawns extra turret guns that lay on the hull and around it.

I'm sure they'll get it sorted, but it's disconcerting that they report it as fixed.

Holy crap it finally works on my machine. I was walking around the Port I have chills the scale seems so big.

Definitely. I remember stepping out of Port Olisar for the first time. It was one of those "holy sh*t" gaming moments that happen so rarely (the last time I remember was the sunrise in Crysis).

I don't think many people appreciate the scale involved with this game. I mean, some of these ships that are coming out are almost as big as FPS levels, and yet once you get in the game, there are zero loading screens. Everything is seamless.

Yup. My "holy crap" moment was walking up the steps to Pad A01 in Port Olisar.....and a Connie fly across the screen. I wont' forget that.

I really like the idea of dual stick =) It feels so right because they're mirrored. I treat my left stick as the throttle, and I made the left/right axis a dead zone so I don't have to perfectly push forward or backward.. yet I still retain ability to twist it and use the hat/thumb buttons.

edit: dual t16000m's. still on the fence about getting pedals.

Man, I wish you could have flown in 1.2 with strafe on that off-hand stick. It was glorious. The Gladius was like a laser beam back then, and with two sticks you could make it dance like Mya. ;)

They seriously need to fix this ship. It should be nothing less than a slightly heavier M50 with bigger / more guns and missiles. That would be the only reason left to own one with the current state of the Hornets.

I don't think the Hornets really need a nerf, it's just that the other ships need to be brought back to where they belong. And my neglected 350R just needs its long-awaited strafe fix. If it wasn't for that da*n strafe buck, this would be my go-to dogfighting machine.

Back when the Mantis didn't overheat after 1/4 second, the 300X series was a serious contender.

#1 thing I think they need to fix right now....ESP in decoupled. It matters with the smaller dogfighters, but it's CRITICAL with large ships. Right now it is super-difficult to keep PIP on target in a Connie when you go into decoupled, and that's the primary way to fight in these big ships when you need to keep momentum and defend yourself.

I really hope they give this some sort of priority, because decoupled is true space flight, and this is a true space sim. Mechanics are everything.

Just got the game last night and got around to playing it this morning.

Tutorial mission is broken for me as it freezes every 5 seconds. Fluid, Freeze for 5 seconds while still playing audio...super pretty and high FPS, freeze for 5 seconds, etc etc.

Looks like a fun game, can't wait till I can actually play it though ;).

The tutorial is very broken, but so much has changed that it's due to be completely scrapped and redone. Fixing the current one isn't worth it, so in the opinion of many they should remove it entirely.

Try loading up Port Olisar and walking around. Maybe ask to tag along in someone's turret, get into some trouble.

Yeah the advice on the CIG forums for most new Citizens is to skip the tutorial completely right now. Instead watch some Youtube videos, review the key bindings, and then fly around in Free Flight in Arena Commander.

If you haven't already, join up with the AT guild. SC lets you join multiple Orgs so you aren't locked in to just us, and it's an easy way to keep track and help out fellow AT'ers (or will be).

Agreed on the tutorial.

Last time I tried it my stick maps didn't work at all, so I didn't even get off the launch pad.

Like Rivet said, the best way to get started is to launch your ship into Drone Sim > Free Flight.

Spend time flying around asteroids using every movement control:
-Vertical Strafe
-Lateral Strafe
-Forward / Reverse Strafe

Practice using thruster options (especially in turns):
-Spacebrake
-Boost
-Afterburner

Cycle through IFCS flight modes on/off and observe how it affects flight:
COMSTAB
GSAFE
COUPLED / DECOUPLED

Also:
LAM (Look-Ahead-Mode - default)
--I recommend disabling to start with.

IM
(Mouse interactive mode)

RM
(Relative mode)
--This is where I would default. It gives you direct control of your ship.

Learn how to approach / land / takeoff from the landing pads. If you are using M/KB, cycle between SCM (combat mode) and PRE (precision mode).

After you've gotten comfortable with flight, jump into Drone Sim > Vanduul Swarm.

I do hope they continue to work up a good tutorial. There's so much to just ship flight and combat in this game that it really needs one for new players so they don't get overwhelmed. I also think a non-lethal Vanduul Swarm option would help new players a lot with learning targeting systems and aiming options. Those things can be hard to get down when you're staying busy just trying not to get shot.

Yeah, the tutorial had me convinced SC key binding was horribly broken. Joystick controls worked to lift me off the pad, but then stopped working entirely. Only when I got into AC did I see they worked perfectly. I hear it's even more bugged now than then.

Lot of good advice from Stringjam.

Through many upgrades, especially the PTU, you are told to delete your USER folder.

The USER folder contains your keybindings.

I recommend deleting everything in your USER folder except for your keybindings folder. Or at minimum, export your keybindings (can be done ingame) and restore them once you upgrade the system files.

not sure if this was your issue, but since I update the PTU for almost every iteration, I've had to keep doing this.

I've always deleted USER and backed up keybindings. My problem is, they just don't work in the tutorial, even if I go through and manually reset them. It's like the tutorial doesn't recognize the input.

I wish this wasn't the case. I've gone through some of it with M/KB just to see what it's like, but it's too frustrating when you're using to flying sticks.

The only adjustment I would make to the above advice is instead of jumping from Free Flight right into Vanduul Swarm, I would spend some time racing on Old Vanderval. Flying through those rings will force you to become a better pilot and use what you've started to learn in Free Flight.....without someone shooting at you!

That's a good idea, and with everything being so close together, you can really see how much the modes and controls affect your movement.
