Not technically a 'hot deal' but it affects a lot of deals as a lot of deals come back from Staples. . . I got in on the HP315 deal and applied 3 coupons (free kit, 40 off, and 100 off) and one week after I got the camera they charged me back for one of the coupons and I called but there was nothing I could do about it cuz they would not budge on the issue. So now need to go return accessory kit :( . . .
BTW, can they do this legally?

Legally, I don't know. I've always thought that the price that you agreed to pay at the final checkout is the only price that they can charge to your card. I would check this out with your CC company. Unauthorized charges should be removed and Staples then would be charged back.
Check it out, I wouldn't give up too easily, if you didn't authorize it, you shouldn't have to pay for it

What was the reason they gave you? If it went through checkout, I'd think it should of been legit.

well, this really belongs in the brag & moan thread.

but anyways, my understanding is that they can't increase the price that you agreed to have them charge your credit card without your approval. i would contact my credit card company and dispute it.

Crazy, no, they cannot do this legally. All you need to do is inform your creditcard company that they are defrauding you of your money, and then send them a copy of the receipt. If your creditcard company is worth anything, they'll get you a fixed charge.

I think that they can charge you a different amount if you defrauded them. That is the only way.

From the Staples website, on the "Enter Coupons" screen:

Important Restrictions:

Coupons are not transferable.
Coupons may only be used once and cannot be used on subsequent orders.
Void where prohibited.
No cash or credit back.
Coupon must be submitted at time of order.
Expired coupons are not valid.
Tax and shipping are not included in calculating minimum purchase requirement.
Coupons not valid on previous purchases.
Only one "Dollars off" coupon per purchase. (see definition below)

#1 it is illegal if you didnt authorize the second charge

#2 two wrongs dont make a right. so, if you wronged them, they should send you an invoice or contact you. by illegally charging your credit card they are breaking the law.

Try to talk to Staples again and raise a hell at the CSR. Every time I call staples and talk to the different CSR, I hear different story. Also call your credit card company and deny the whole transaction then staples would compromise it. I have done it in the past with one of the vendor. I know this post should not be here but oh well...too late.
