staples return policy??

I bought a router awhile ago and never used it and its sealed, and i want to take it back to the store without a reciept will they give me store credit or online credit?
The lady i talked to on the phone was wishy washy about it..
Has anybody done this?
I know places like target offer store credit...

Most places only give store credit without a receipt.
