I remember the threads from some months ago that lead to the phrase "Staples is SUCK" with great fondness. Boy, some of the people here sure have a pretty good sense of humor!! But after today I think we should change the phrase to "Staples is STOOPID".
I got in on the pricematch/rebate deal last week to get the Maxtor 40GB HD for $119 (pricematch with OD). The 1-800 staples guy said the drives were sold out so I did the zip code trick. Yep, they had one at a local store. So I got it a few days ago and inside the box was a receipt from a store a couple of miles from my house. Today, in the Sunday's ad Staples is giving away a USB 100 Zip drive with the same 40GB drive. So I went down and they gave me one. For FREE and didn't even charge me tax !! Man, "Staples is STOOPID" !!!!
The funniest thing is that they didn't even have any of the 40GB drives on the shelf (which is why the Zip drives were still available) so I couldn't have paid the store price of $179 to buy one even if I wanted to. To make matters worse the drive they shipped me was one of the ones with "5 Gigs FREE" so I actually got Maxtor's top of the line 45GB drive.
OK, I know this goes in brag and moan but lets see:
45GB Maxtor drive + Maxtor UDMA Controller + USB Zip 100 drive =
($119 price match + $49 Controller + Tax - $40 Coupon - 50 Maxtor MIR) = $87 !!! Thats less than the price of just the zip drive !
At this rate Staples is soon to be in ValueAmerica terrory. Boy,
