Thanks to SD and the OP!

the 24 inch looks good...

Ok, Staples has something for everyone looking for an LCD this week: different 4 LCD monitors on sale this week that you can use additional coupons on to bring the prices even lower. Here's the rundown & the how-to on getting them down to the lowest possible prices:

Hanns-G 21.6" Widescreen LCD - VGA & HDMI inputs - $209.99 before coupons (before anyone asks about the odd screen size, it was determined last time that almost ALL 22" widescreen LCDs are actually 21.6", but for whatever reason, Hanns-G lists theirs at the exact 21.6")

Acer AL1916AW 19" Widescreen LCD - VGA input only - $149.99 before coupons

Dell SE198WFP 19" Widescreen LCD - VGA / DVI-D input - $179.99 before coupons

V7 24" Widescreen LCD - VGA and HDMI inputs - $329.99 before coupons

Now, here's the way to knock them down even more:

Hanns-G and the V7 monitors will require a $40 off $200 coupon.
Acer & Dell monitors will require a $30 off $150 coupon.

All will require 3x$3 Staples Ink coupon.

You can get any of these from E-Junkie or CN-Usa for $2.95.

So you will spend $5.80 on the coupons.

For the Acer monitor, you'll need a filler item. Everyone needs pens. Pick any pack of the $1.19 ones. Or get the Swingline 5000 ct of standard staples for $1.49 (I'm sure all SD'ers need these for when you mail in all those rebate forms ) (side note: I never get why everyone buys the paperclips - I run a whole office and we haven't used / required a single paperclip in years)

Total cost of your stuff will be: (all prices shipped)

Hanns-G 21" = $165.79
Acer 19" = $117.98
Dell 19" = $146.79
V7 24" = $286.79

Side notes:

I saw a Staples deal listed earlier for a Sony cam / Epson printer combo which offered a reusable 5 digit coupon code 89950 for $40 off $200. I tried it for this and that code is apparently only usable over the phone or in-stores, but not online - so you might be able to call and use that and save yourself $2.95 from buying one.

Any of the coupons you purchase from E-Junkie / CN-USA are only good online or over the phone; you don't get the actual printed coupons, just the codes.

Side note #2:
I got the Hanns-G monitor about a month or so. Great monitor for the price, I love it. 3 year warranty on this one, BTW.

I had been using the Acer 19" for about 2 years before that, no problems at all, still looks great, and Acer has my confidence in it that I recently redid our entire office with that same monitor.

Ok, hope everyone enjoys these deals! Take care!

I say "meh", but 3-year warranty is good.

If you're going to get a 24", make it either an unreliable good one (soyo) or at least a good one that will last and has all the inputs you want. If you get a good one it'll last you for years and years.

What are you talking about? You link to their page where it rants and raves about it? Getting iit for around the same price as a soyo with longer warranty and the ablity to adjust the thing.,..seems pretty good.

I think he means they're up front about it being a TN panel. Listed in Key Features tab at bottom of page.

"24'' TN Wide Panel

I got the Hanns-G monitor from Staples (Black Friday $150AR). I ended up selling it two weeks ago. Two problems for me...

First is probably unique for myself, this monitor is big and heavy for a 22" size. What I mean is that it is well built and the bezel is large. Not bad in itself, but I was using it for LAN parties and I found myself missing the 20" Dell E207WFP monitor it replaced because that dell had a really thin bezel and was really lightweight. The Hanns-G weighs around 18 pounds or so, while the Dell 20" weighs just over 10 pounds. Makes a difference if you're carrying it from a parking lot somewhere into a venue. BTW a Dell 22" monitor weighs around 11 pounds (E227WFP or something).

Second is an annoyance. The Hanns-G 22" (or 21.6" whatever) monitor does not have a normal DVI input, but instead has an HDMI input. The first thing is that they do not include a cable for it (either HDMI to HDMI, or HDMI to DVI), so you have to buy it separately. I got one from Monoprice.com for just under $10 shipped. The second thing is that Windows pretty much thinks this monitor is an HDTV. While the panel only has 1680x1050 pixels, Windows allows you to choose 1080p (1920x1080) resolutions. This means if you are in the habit of setting everything to the highest resolution, then stuff looks kind of crappy because it isn't mapped per pixel but is interpolated. Also, with Nvidia drivers you have an aspect ratio problem if what you are using (in my case games) don't support widescreen modes. It WILL stretch the picture wide. The problem is the HDTV mode because with a normal widescreen LCD you can switch between monitor and HDTV mode in the Nvidia Control Panel. In monitor mode you can preserve aspect ratio. Since Windows always thinks this is an HDTV (because of HDMI port maybe?) you can't do that. Another problem I had was that after switching to 1080p mode, the display got corrupted. Don't know if it was just my card (8800GTS G92) or the driver version (latest WHQL) but I couldn't fix it until I reinstalled the driver. I tried it a second time and it did the same thing.

Anyways, besides those issues, the monitor worked great! No dead/stuck pixels, picture was great, monitor felt like it was nice quality. If it was just sitting on my desk and I wasn't playing older games, I'd be really happy with it.
