Staples in store 100$ off tablets

I picked up an Acer Iconia from there earlier today for $300 + tax (around $324 after tax). Haven't had a chance to unbox it, yet, but I'm pretty excited. Definitely a Hot Deal!

Typing on my Iconia now and browsing with Firefox. Wow, this thing is nice. There was an OS update available when I first booted up and I've got that installed. I've tried out some of the included apps and downloaded a couple (vnc, rdp, sudoku). The included Need For Speed Shift is fun.

I've been looking at tablets for a while, but had ruled out the Iconia due to cost. At $300, though, I couldn't pass it up. I'm glad I didn't!

I went by my local Stapes and they didn't have a single tablet model in stock (big surprise).

Tried to price match the Acer tablet at Office-Depot who had them in stock, but they would only "price match" if I purchased an extended warranty for an additional $189.

Went to Walmart, and after the salesperson confirmed it with an assistant manager, I walked out with the Acer Iconia for $320!

I picked up a Dell Streak 7 for $200 with the staples coupon. Using it now. Since getting the tablet, using it now, i don't hardly use my desktop or laptop (except to play games) and now i just use my phone as a, well, just as a phone. Plus, being a Tegra2 the Tegra game market has some great games. Email, web, reading, games, it does what i need it to do and i can do them anywhere i want.

OK what the heck is everyone using their tablets for? I cannot find any reason to own one myself, really :|

For me, I have found that:

They are much better than a netbook for browsing the web while laying on the couch or in bed while my wife watches TV

They are great for reading Kindle books or digital comics (Comixology always has lots of great $1 deals on comics)

Better for watching movies on a plane than my laptop. A tablet is especially good if you want to have something to use while traveling on business instead of your work laptop, and don't want to lug around a second laptop with you.

There are a lot of good sketching apps available if you want to use one for illustration. Autodesk Sketchbook Pro is a nice app, especially if you get a stylus that works with capacitve screens.

There are also a lot of games that work better on a tablet instead of a regular computer. Plants vs. Zombies, for example, is a hell of a lot of fun on the iPad, as is Cut the Rope and Fruit Ninja.

Still lovin' my Iconia! I wasn't sure how much I would actually use this tablet (I've got a closet full of gadgets that I've bought and not used), so I didn't buy any sort of service plan to go along with it. I have 14 days from purchase date to buy one. I think Staples has the plan for the Iconia on sale for 1/2 price ($100 vs. the normal $200), and I may purchase it.

$200 normal for the protection plan? 😱

All I have is a Nook Color, and it's okay. I'd probably have more use with a 10" tablet or more specifically a Transformer. The NC even with custom roms just isn't responsive enough for me to really use it for all that much. Regardless of browser it's still clunky to get places and it's still slow on wifi. When I need to pull something up fast and I have my iphone and Nook sitting next to me, there's almost no reason not to use the iphone. As a reader though I really like it.

Something designed from the ground up to be a tablet would be better I'm assuming, but I've only owned the NC and find it to be a bit short of what I would like from a usability standpoint. The screen is just a bit too inaccurate making typing an issue, and it moves just slow enough (even after an OC) to feel clunky.

I just now called to check the pricing. For the Acer Iconia A500, Staples offers a $100 2-year "standard" warranty and a $170 2-year "accidental damage" warranty. The "standard" warranty includes a screen replacement if it dies undamaged, screen re-alignment, full-refund-if-unrepairable, etc. The "accidental damage" warranty covers basically everything. I think the Staples rep said that these were discount prices when I bought the tablet on Saturday, but the person I spoke to on the phone did not advertise the warranties as discounted.

Squaretrade warranty for a new Iconia. 2 years for 54.00

Nice! Thanks for the tip. I'll have to check them out!

EDIT: Looks like Squaretrade has 30% off warranties with coupon code THIRTY30 (doesn't work for me) !

Dang, just ordered the transformer from NE yesterday. Oh well, it's the model my wife preferred the most (compared to the xoom, tab 10.1, HP's, and the blackberry). Still, for $100 less I might have been able to convince her to settle for another model.

I just now purchased a warranty from Squaretrade for my Iconia A500. 2-year coverage including accidental damage was $100 - 30% code REDHOT = $70.
