Hey- first hotdeal post for me so dont bit me head off, this is a bit of a YMMV.
I was at the staples in McMinnville OR and had THIS bookshelf ring up for me at $6.50. Not a bad deal and I thought I would pass it along. It's oak and seems to be decently made, and $6.50 is realllly cheap.
In store it was marked as $13, but when entered in to their computers it showed up as $6.50.

Also- if your looking for a decent desk (or at least one with alot of desk space) THIS seemed to be a really good deal.

I'm moving in to an unfurnished appartment and walked out with a big desk and bookshelf for $76. Seemed pretty hot to me.

eh that's fine, using a laptop. Plus I could find a way to add some kind of support I'm sure if I wanted to use a CRT, but I doubt I will for quite a while

Being a woodworker, I would guess that the bookshelves are not oak, but particle board with oak veneering.

There is no way I could make for free this bookshelf from oak, at wholesale cost, without charging labor for $20.

This is the kind of thing I would not order without seeing.

It doesnt say what kind of wood it is... it says the color of the wood. . .

I love building bookcases....I have about 1000 books :)

My latest creation....has a 4' wide x 6' high bookcase x 1' deep with 30"x 5' desk between it attached to a 7' wide x 30" wide bookcase....a couple shelves between them above and below the desktop.

Total price about $170 in wood....satellite installer was here today and wanted one too :) he couldn't believe it when I told him I built it ;)

Still I probably couldn't build that case even with cheap wood for $6.50....or even $13 really...so if that is all you need it's a steal.

I can guarentee that this is particle board but in reality that's all a lot of people need (I use one now).. They are cheap and are not expected to last a lifetime like a decent bookcase.

Hmmm no....it actually could be called a hybrid of to bookcases with one shelf on each linked to a 30" high desk, and another couple as shelves. It's actually a workstation...however if I were to use oak, maple, or let's say teak, I could easily spend $200 for a not so large bookshelf. Even expensive furniture today is hardwood plyboard (sometimes even particle) with the real wood being a veneer, even mid range furniture uses paper/vinyl 'veneer' sometimes.

The desktop between them is 30x61", I wanted 36"x60" but a door is at 30" from the wall. Tommorrow I will make a new post about my desk :) It's a nice and compact work area.

How heavy is particle board? Cause the box it came in is really heavy.
And it says Oak on the box, but not like 100% oak or anything.
Now personally I doubt it's oak too, just stating those 2 things. I'll go see if I can find anything eles from the box

You can call something "real wood" even if it's not real wood. Since particle boards is sawdust and chips, it's good enough to be wood for our Congressmen.

Reagan wanted ketchup to be a vegetable... What's next?

I bought one last week for $6.50 at staples. Particleboard is heavy because if all the epoxy glue that holds the sawdust together.

it's a little messy and alot of the books are not in the picture.

My Desk

For perspective, that's a Epson 880 and HP 4c scanner on the upper shelf. My Tower is an Additronics Full, and the monitor is a 19"
